Funky Junk page kit 02 by Meryl Bartho was the perfect setting for this 2-page layout featuring the collections of my husband's grandfather. Paired with Layered Story Double 01 Quick Click Template by Meryl I was able to use all of the myriad of photos of strange things he kept in his living room -

Sam and Myrtle took me into the big room of his original log-walled Latham Island cabin. It was marvellouly interesting inside, a museum in miniature. The walls were hung with heads of wild animals Sam had shot or trapped. Variegated rocks of shimmering designs and strange content, sparkled upwards out of neat glass cases. Sam had picked up the rocks on his prospecting wanderings.
A tall, brown figurine of a boy, rather out-landish in his rubber nakedness, stood at nude attention beside a tray of golden-veined rocks. Sam pressed the lads tummy and a stream of water splashed over the rocks, clarifying the yellow veins. A good wash shows up the colors better, chuckled Sam.
Among many other exhibits was a heavy, two-pronged dog-team anchor -
an item seldom seen today; a well-worn crosscut saw, its frame homemade
by Sam from a long thicker than usual Barren Lands willow branch, hung
above the stretched out skin of a 15 foot long boa constrictor from South
America, donated by an interested American tourist; a green, 35 pound slab
of native copper found by Sam on one of his travelling journeys in the
Coppermine area, rested against the log wall.
You must be quite a taxidermist, too, I ventured, looking over the
collection of wild animal heads an stuffed birds, which decorated the polished
brown wells of the living room.
Not really, replied Sam. Just something I picked up to occupy my thoughts
and hands during those dark Barren Lands nights. After I cleaned out the
heads, Id stuff the insides with old newspapers and crumpled magazine
pages.
When I ran out of paper, Id use the stuffing out of my old bed mattress. The
mattress stuffing turned out to be the best material, so each winter Id take a
brand new mattress with my gear. By the time spring cam around I had lots of
heads, but not much mattress.

great pages, love how the photos are tucked under the paper, that's so creative

I love how this looks like an open journal!! This is such a great 2 page layout and I'm simply amazed by how many photos you were able to include (and the cool way you've arranged all of those photos).
