While growing up in Wisconsin, we were always told spring is on its way when we first see a robin. Then I became an adult, met my husband who was a birder. While going with him birding, I learned that robins stayed in our county year round. There goes that theory. I watched what birds truly came back in spring and eventually noticed the redwing blackbird and/or sandhill crane were a better indicator of spring being around the corner!
