Scrappy Question #5 {YOUR GingerScraps Story}

Jill

Sugar Cookie : GingerScraps Praise Team
What drew you to Gingerscraps, what do you love about the Gingerscraps community/store, what other functions would you like to see

Tell me YOUR story.

When my previous digi site closed, I surfed around trying to find a new "fit" for me, was drawn to GS by a number of different things and have stayed because of a number of other things.

What drew me in: The community seemed to be a busy, welcoming and friendly place and the store process was similar to what I was used to as was the gallery upload process. There was a wide variety of product and designer, the kits on offer were very generous in content and the free goodies in the Welcome Wagon were a delightful bonus.

What kept me here: Love the challenges!! I didnt take part in many challenges at my previous site because the criteria was often Buy One Get One, meaning you had to buy the kit to take part in the challenge. I LOVE LOVE that here at GS that is not a criteria for taking part, you can use any GS designer's kits for most of the challenges , and a big bonus as well is that retired kits can also be used providing the designer still sells here at GS. I have become a big challenge fan since I came here, always completing at least the 10 LOs required to earn the very generous reward each month. I love the generosity of Ginger and the designers, I love that Ginger is so approachable if I have any issues, I love being a member of the Cookie team

What I would like to see: All pretty much perfect to me as is and the new platform is fantastic...it must be a year now since the changeover...WOW!!
I wish we could swap out a LO once uploaded to the gallery. I often notice a mistake after upload and want to correct it but cannot simply swap out the original for the corrected version as was the case previously. I can delete and upload corrected version but that means doing it all over again and losing any comments already entered.
I would like to be able to edit my DM messages to fix my frequent typos (reminder to self...proof read first!!!).
I would like to know what goodies I missed out on instore when my Wish List gets a notification that something has been removed (stickybeaks need to know:D).
I would like the Designers to list the fonts that they used in word art so that I can match if I need to.

When I was on the Designer Elite Team (like our creative team) I posted at different sites and GingerScraps was the most welcoming. I loved the comments and often came back just to see what the comments were. Before the site closed, there was a lot of drama and I stopped scrapping for a while, or only did personal scrapping and didn’t post anything. I was chatting with our old site Facebook group one day and someone said they had “seen” Jill at GingerScraps, so I hunted her down. The site was as warm and welcoming as I had always remembered and I wish I had not wasted any time, but came here right away!

I think my wish list is the same as Jill’s exactly, except I am not as bothered about the wish list.

I do wish we organized in person laptop crops! I love meeting people in real life and met some of my dearest friends that way. I gave it at try when I first came here, but the meet ups thread is not very active and I doubt anyone noticed!

I love this thread! <3 <3 <3

I LOVE this post - seriously, this is exactly what I hoped GingerScraps would feel like when I started it, so hearing this just makes my heart so happy 💛
Okay but “stickybeaks need to know” absolutely took me out 🤣🤣 To answer your question about the wishlist and how you wished the shop would tell you when items was removed (when they are retired or removed form the shop). Unfortunately that is not a feature or any mod I can add to the cart. It would be cool though! I totally agree. And can we talk about you crushing those challenges every month?! 🙌 That’s amazing!
I love all your suggestion! <3

This made me smile so much 💛 I’m so glad you found your way here and even more glad you have stayed for so long!! It makes me extra happy that GingerScraps felt like a safe, welcoming place to come back to 😊

And ohhh the idea of in-person laptop crops… I LOVE that!! That would be so fun! I have wanted to do a GS meetup for years. Travel is a bit challenging for me since, due to medical reasons, I can't fly or drive long distances. Sooo I would need a driver. LOL But if it wasn't too far from me, it is possible <3

What Drew Me In......2019 I was just getting started in digital scrapbooking and was wanting to get digi kits organized and Karen Schulz (as snickerdoodles at the time) had an organizing class to help learn ACDSee and was so very helpful. She suggested the challenges to learn what I could do.

What kept Me.....Karen's Use it all challenge because I could start with a small kit and not get overwhelmed. And Dandelion Dust Designs challenges and speed scraps. Also with just starting out I found that I was able to grow "my stash" slowly with getting mini kits to do Challenges along with earning a kit for completing 10, and $1.50/$2.00 sales. Then.....it became addicting. The forum has created a welcoming feeling like family atmosphere. I would say the new platform has made it much easier posting challenges which I really appreciate.

Wish List....Someway to encourage what I would call doing personal layouts. I have lists of albums I would like to work on. (for example) I would love to take photos of our 2 daughters since they were young and make a "sisters" album......but I will NOT post them online so I find when I do scrapbook I'm doing challenges that help me create some nice individual layouts of various 'events' but few toward my personal scrapping.......so maybe I just need to discipline myself that I need to do a personal layout for every challenge one I do.

This is not an easy question to answer as it so many years since I joined.
If I remember correctly a lot of designers I liked were here and it seemed a very active friendly site ( which it still is! )
After Gotta Pixel closed where I was hosting challenges and guest CT for Connie Prince a couple of times and about to be her Gotta Pixel Advertising person, I became more active here.

I still state that this site has the best variety of talented designers in digiland.

My wish list: it would be great if we could edit our layouts in the gallery to upload a corrected one.

Much like you, Jill, my original digiscrapbook "home" closed and Gingerscraps reached out to all of us with open arms. With such a warm welcome to start, it's continued to be such a supportive place.

I would love to see would be to add more people. I know that hobbies ebb and flow, and I feel like traditional scrapbooking hit it's peak a couple of decades ago and is now waning. But would love to see more people get involved with digi scrapping to tell their stories.

Hi Debra, thank you for your participation. One suggestion would be to create the beautiful LO you would like to do for your family but use stock photos for the online versions, then use your own photos and personal journalling for the private ones. Some people do that or blank out the faces of those they do not want to show online. Maybe you could create a quick page from your online versions then simply insert your own photos for your private albums. Hope that helps <3

Questions like this make me realize what a horrible memory I have!! I joined back in 2011, and I'm pretty sure I was introduced because I got a spot on a designer's CT at the time. I stuck around and joined some other CTs and really enjoyed it because GS is always so friendly, fun, and active! There is always something going on, lots of layouts to look at in the gallery, and lots of new products to see. I've always loved the monthly buffet too. So many great things about GS.

When I moved from paper scrapping I found Scrap N Pieces online, then when they moved to Gingerscraps, so I did too and I never looked back!
@Route66 Thanks for your input Karen, this post could well prompt another Scrappy Question for the future....I am always curious to hear stories of transition to digi and whether most/some/none/all people still paper scrap.

This part of Jill's reply, ⬆️ minus the Cookie Team part, could be my post exactly.
I am very motivated by challenges, and I visited several sites looking for challenges and Gingerscraps by far excels in this area. I love that are so many to choose from as then you can choose what works for you and still get the 10+ done every month. Other sites have only a handful of challenges and the restrictions for them are far too tight. My goal is creating a layout for a challenge and still have it be "me" and not having the end product be a page that I am not happy with only to qualify for the challenge.
I did one challenge at another site that had us picking random items from several different kits in our stash and then having to use them all to create a page. The layout was ridiculous but I did it and then trashed the page when I was done which was a waste of my time.
I am loving doing the challenges here and have pages that I am happy to have completed and to share. I also love that some of the challenges here push me to try new things but some of them easy for me which is also nice.

A wish list:
I have NO idea how to make this happen, but I know the challenge requirement is to use mostly GS products in layouts which is 100% understandable, but I have had several designers that I really liked over the years that left GS and I had no idea about a few of them. I created a layout for a challenge and then found out they no longer were selling here. I wish there was some easy way to be aware of when I designer leaves the store. It's not like you want to advertise that certain designers have left, but for challenge requirements it can make it a little tricky if we don't know.

I just thought of another thing I would like to see:

I would love it if the designers labelled their elements by name rather than by el1 el2 etc. so that the items appear in a fille explorer search

Edited and added to first post.

I eventually found my gallery, I'm sure someone moves it every time I switch off.

So...I did a bit of lurking on here before this became my second home.

A little while ago I put my first layout up on here was Feb 14, 2012, well it was 2 layouts. I was bragging about my first great grand kid.

I've just been looking at my first layouts that I brought here. I was good then, dunno what happened since. But I digress the comments by all those ladies are lovely, that is why I came here for the comments. I remember a few of them and some of them aren't with us anymore, ladies that is, they went to heaven.

I was having a read of my first layouts last night. You know when your brain dead and cant remember? I was quite surprised that everyone liked what I did. That's why I stayed here, nice comments!

I came here as a permanent fixture 2016 after Gotta Pixel fell over, us girls from there all fell over too, twas a shock, someone must have known what was happening and why but I had no idea. One day all was well then it wasn't. Thankfully Ginger took most of us lot in and gave us a new home. I been here ever since. <3
