The craziness continues, though. My daughter is working repairing princess costumes. She is a beginning seamstress though, so guess who gets to do the complicated stuff. She had a bit of a meltdown over the outer layer of a princess ball gown (Ariel) that had a lot of tears in it. To replace the layer would require taking the whole skirt apart, all four layers. I proposed we cut off the damaged part about half way up the skirt in scallops and replace it with a slightly different fabric. We found some gorgeous fabric, but if you sew, you know that tulle, nets, etc. are hard to work with. She was not precise enough on the cut and the fabric was sliding all over the place. Then she hand tacked the layer on, but it really needed the new part tacked underneath. She was in tears. I sent her home, then spent all night fixing it. It was a bear and the seam showed through, so I added a layer of hand stitched pearls. I think I hand stitched for about 8 or 9 hours. Anyway, it was stunning. When Karen arrived this morning, expecting to start from scratch, she took one look and burst into tears all over again. She said she had never seen anything so beautiful. We finished up the rest of the stuff, the zipper, the cording, the other tears and then spent a while zhuzhing it up.
The owner of the princess party shop was delighted. She said Ariel had never been so beautiful.
Interestingly enough, they refer to the costumes as 'she' not 'it.'
"She" was beautiful, that's for sure.
