Which.....?

OK - I browsed through my collection and found some wonderful art journally stuff and created this! I still think I go for too pretty for my art journalling, but I really do like this one :)

I went and bought a few of the graffiti type kits I found in the store and created this page. I discovered I already had a great paper to use as my background in the kit - Art in My Heart by Magical Scraps Galore ( I will be searching her store more for such papers in her kits).

I’d love to dabble more in artsy but I really want to learn the extractions.

I too started on paper and most of my pages still look paper.

I know this is simple for most.....but I just want to be able to shadowing!! There are a lot of things I have no idea about but I think I want to start with that. :) I just want to scrap like all you amazing ladies.

What program do you use?
Here is a great set of shadow styles that may help if you can use them in your program:

I love love your amazing hybrid work!!! Shadowing has always been difficult for me, at my previous home (now closed) most elements came already shadowed. It was a learning curve to learn how to shadow realistically (and learning is what I am still doing:)). I like shadowing more deeply now that what I was happy with back then.

Blending here too! I know how to do it but I'm never happy with the results, except my last one, spiderman page, I followed your tips ladies and loved how it turned out. I ct-ed for a mixed media designer some time ago and loved the results except for the blending LOL which I didn't do often, I feel pages were hard to start but then the creativity just flowed and the pages were awesome, to me LOL. Nowadays I'm only scrapping for my photo books so my pages are more, let's say predictable.
I second what Heidi said, a video or tuts would be great!

ETA just read the page 2 comments LOL

Like Anne Marie said, first thing is what program do you use, if it is photoshop you can buy a pack and twist them to your like. Or you can create your own ones as styles. Something you can easily do is make a list of the ellies/pp and then write down the distance and size for each one, I usually use the same color and mode for mine, and if you're not sure about yours just look at a page you like in the gallery, that's the best way to start. I'm also PS self taught and that's how I did it LOL, nowadays I'm trying to deepen my shadows, let's see how it turns out when printed.

I use the set Anne-Marie recommended quite a bit. The shadow styles come with the uses, for example, there is one for lace and one for buttons and one for alpha. For flowers and foliage, there are a number of them. So in a cluster, I might use flower1 for the lowest flower and flower2 for the next one, etc. They are very very good!

Oh, dear, you ladies, are so inspiring, but I aspire to not take 2 days or more to do a page. I have oodles of videos on extractions and masking and brushwork, but they don't seem to work by osmosis.. who knew??? I need to quit collecting and do some doing. Quite frankly I get overwhelmed in the gallery to the point i'm almost paralyzed by thinking, I can't do that... ya'll in my mind make it seem easy...it's the way I was wired by a parent and I am mostly my own worst enemy. My new laptop makes photoshop run like a dream so i'm dabbling, but I would like it to be more relaxing. LOL

Hmmmm. I'd like to get better at two types - totally polar opposites!! LOL

I want to be splashy, messy, artsy, which includes learning how to do extractions better, and using paint brushes and masking.

The other side of me wants to learn to do really clean and simple. I love really clean and almost plain looking pages too - with lots of negative space - but I wind up being to fussy and adding too much to it to be clean and simple, but not enough to be piley and artsy!

I discovered that a while ago when I bought a hip and thigh buster DVD....I sat and watched it for weeks with no change to my hips and thighs....sigh

Sometimes I work on a LO, on and off, for a week or more. I am having so much fun with it that I don't want to let it go.....

Same with organizational stuff! You can buy boxes and bins and books on organizational stuff, but you have to actually get up and do something with them. Funny Dat!
