What Makes GingerScraps Your Digi-Home?

I thought since we have some new people checking out GingerScraps, that we could share with each other what made GingerScraps "home" for you. We've talked about it on another thread in the Everyday Chatter.

Let's talk about it again! Some people don't have to have that "digi-home" to find enjoyment in digital scrapbooking. Others do. I am one of those that love the comradery that digiscrap brings. I love that I have friends I would never have "met" if it wasn't for digiscrap...from all over the world!!

So...what was it that made GingerScraps home for you?

I think it is obvious what it was for me. The people.

I started here back in 2010 when a (now completely retired) designer I was CTing for started selling here. I would post my layouts in the gallery; and that was it. Then I noticed that man-oh-man GS people left lots of comments on layouts! I started participating in challenges, tried my hand at a few Survivors, and then joined the praise team. Those amazing ladies who leave all the love in the gallery. I now blog for GS; and one day will worm my way on to the creative team. :-P

I talk to people here at GS outside of here on a near daily bases. Some of the NICEST most genuine digi-scrap peeps around!

Gingerscraps is my home. If it were a physical building, I would that guest that showed up with her toothbrush and just never left. I originally called another site "home" until it closed and then bounced around for about a year finding a place that was welcoming. I tried a few others, but it never felt just "right". And then, like Goldilocks, I found the one that was "just right".
Gingerscraps has everything that I look for - great people and camaraderie, easy to use forum that makes sense and is easy to navigate, a gallery that loves you back, awesome designers, periodic sales, and fun challenges.
I can't name another site that is more perfect to call home

The designers were what brought me here years ago when I first discovered digital scrapbooking and their creativity and inspiration is one of the reasons GS is my digi-home! I love all the fun challenges, the discussions, and the support here from my fellow scrappers as well as those who keep the site going. I love checking the gallery for the sweet comments, too. It's just a fun, easy forum to follow and feel welcome to.

I agree Lynn. The designers are part of the reason for me too. I love checking to see what is new every Friday. I especially enjoy the buffet and the bake sale.

(Your siggy is lovely btw!)

There are so many reasons why I consider Ginger Scraps my digital home, although I am on a site creative team at another site (and am honoured by that fact, and greatly appreciate it), so that is definitely a secondary home for me.

When I returned to digital scrapbooking earlier this year, having not scrapped since 2005 (suffered a concussion, had to stay off the computer for months, and then never got back into it) I started looking around at the various digital scrapbooking sites that were out there. Several things attracted me to Ginger Scraps: first of all, a number of designers whose worked I liked (including from way back when) were here. Then I discovered the challenges, and found out that I could actually earn a kit for completing enough (10) challenges! And if I didn't complete 10 in one month, they would carry over to the next month! I was very impressed with this reward system - it made the challenges not only fun to do, but rewarding as well.

I also was impressed by the free gifts in the Welcome Wagon, and the wonderful freebies many designers provide on their Facebook pages or in their newsletters.

Then the gallery, and the wonderful Sugar Cookies! I really liked that, when I looked through the gallery, and then when I started posting myself, all of the layouts in the main gallery had been commented upon! And they were substantial comments, not just "nice LO" or "gorgeous photo" or "beautiful" - the type of comments I've found at other sites. No, here the comments actually addressed one or more components of the layout. I loved that!

I also liked that the forums were busy, but not so busy that I couldn't keep up. The feeling of community really appealed to me as well. There was no "clique-y" feel. Oh, and the fact that a number of designers will comment on the challenge layouts posted for their challenges, or when you post to their gallery. It is awesome!

I was asked to join or applied to a couple of CTs for designers that are either exclusively here or have their "main" stores here, which I have greatly enjoyed! Then, in October, I was asked to join the Sugar Cookies. I am delighted to be a member of such a great team! My dream/goal is to be on the Ginger Scraps site creative team - hopefully I'll get there someday!

I'm probably forgetting something, but those are some of the reasons with Ginger Scraps is my digital scrapbooking home.

Quite simply - the people.

When I went digital, our own Missi got me started here. I knew her and Kaycee (khannen) from another non-scrapping source and it just felt like the right place to start. But oh, that was just the beginning.

I've had the pleasure of making friends with some amazing, being on designer CTs (either full time or as a guest), and finding my best friends here. I love what Ginger does here and what our team does (designers, Sugar Cookies, site CT and our fabulous Ad Team - might be biased on that last one).

Many of you are like family to me.

I love this thread. Thanks LaShawn for posting it. I have LOST so many "digital homes" and my paper scrapbook home (2 peas) over the years, that I'm actually "afraid" to call one place my digital home. I'm afraid I'll jinx it!! But I love it here at Gingerscraps. The people are approachable! The layouts in the gallery are inspiring. The challenges are fun and challenging!! I usually don't have much time to do many of the challenges, but that is actually what drew me here to begin with so many years ago!! Then I started cTing for a few designers that had their store here, so I've just kind of "naturally" settled here--I hope our new friends will feel at home here in the months to come. It's a very welcoming site!!

This thread has left me feeling very sappy and emotional!

Welcome to all our new family members!! I look forward to getting to know you all!!!

I landed here after a long break whilst in mourning over the loss of a beloved digi home of which I had exclusively been a member for the previous 10 or so years. There followed a long 18month or so break during which time I thought the scrapping hobby was lost to me as I could no longer find any motivation or enjoyment in the craft. At the beginning of this year, I tentatively started looking around the digi world again, checking out sites, products, galleries, forums etc. My criteria was product that I liked, ease of shopping process, an active forum, a place where I was not home alone, busy gallery with meaningful gallery comments, friendly people...I found all of that here at GS. Then I found the challenges!! How lovely to be able to use ANY current designers kits...even retired ones and Welcome Wagon kits, for any of the challenges (with just a couple of exceptions...spotlight designer challenge, daily download for eg.). AND THEN I was invited to join the Sugar Cookie team! I have found my Forever Home here at GS and I hope all the GP people coming over and all new members to GS find the same thing here with us.

I've been a member of many forums but GS is and will be the only digi home for me.. Not only because I am a designer here :D, but I just love this community! People here are so friendly, helpful and nice to each other.. Besides, I love how the forum is buzzing all the time! I've always been more of a forum person, I love to get involved, meet new people and "see" them around daily and GS has it all :).

I was on the CT for another store (since closed) and JoyLynn from Blue Heart Scraps was a designer at both stores-she brought me here. I was relatively new to the world of digital scrapbooking and had never really been involved in forums or anything else. I found GS to be such a warm environment! The people here are just wonderful. I love that everyone is so encouraging and willing to help. The designers here are so talented and very involved and friendly. Ginger has created such a fantastic environment for all of us to thrive in! This has been my only real home for the past 4 years and I absolutely LOVE it!

I love GS! This is the first and only digi home I've had. I started digiscrapping in 2012 and was searching for free goodies, lol. And the Welcome Wagon was fantastic! Soon there was the Christmas in July event and ever since I was hooked. I started participating in the challenges and chatted in the forum. I became a Cookie then part of the CT.

Gingerscraps is such a friendly place. I'm never shy to post about something because I know someone will reply, no matter how silly my post. I've met Michi...all the way from Florida (I'm in CA), and I hope to meet more folks. There are quite a few from CA, hopefully we can have a meet up one day. This is a place of encouragement, support, and love. Gingerscraps is home :)

I joined here some years ago because of being a member of a CT for a designer selling here at the time. I have popped back in a couple of times over the years and recently came here because of a Guest CT month with Connie Prince.
And I want to say how special the Sugar Cookies are here. On each and every one of my CT layouts I received a comment from at least one and most times two Sugar Cookies. It is very encouraging to receive praise in the gallery.

Now I am settling in to make Ginger Scraps my new digi home and look forward to getting to know you all better.

We still need to meet, Em!!!
Are you, by any chance, going up to the gathering that Rachel from Seatrout Scraps is having in Rocklin on the 18th??

I've not got to meet in person any of my scrappy friends. Some that I am closest with either live on the other side of the country, or across the world. It would be so cool to though!

I vote for a GingerScraps Convention! :36_1_11:

I have been at GS since 2009! (urged by another gs member to come visit...and bam..i stayed!)..I was a Sugar Cookie for about a year..and then was offered the Cookie Mama position(2012)..which was the best decision I have ever made, since, it has really been a joy working with a special group of ladies(recent and past cookies....lol...y'all know who you are!!)..and I am still amazed how cyber friends create "tight" friendships..I have personally met a few GS members in person(some more than once..again, y'all know who you are..lol)...Go check the Meet Up Thread https://forums.gingerscraps.net/showthread.php?18730-Meet-ups!! to see Who has met up with Who(whom?)..:)

HI Mama! Looks like I need to get my butt over to FL... always fun meet ups over there!

..duh..which is what the Florida babes have been telling y'alls...there is usually a GS member "somewhere" in Florida who is more than willing to meet up with you! (lol...I feel like the Fl representative for the chamber of commerce)

I found GS through my first CT team (seatrout scraps). Then I was offered some more positions from other designers and stayed! I love the friendly boards and no drama! I love the camaraderie and that the forum is actually busy. I love that if you have a problem, someone is always around to answer you!! It's just a great, welcoming place to be.

Being a Gingerbread Girl came to me by way of guesting and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. I had never CT'd for a store team before and the other CT members have made me feel so welcome from the get go. I have never felt like the "newbie" or been made to feel I do not belong. And that's special.

Lastly, I love that the gallery is set up so easy to use and the Sugar Cookies are always on hand to give you that awesome comment on your work. They ROCK!
