What inspired you to start scrapping?

Executive Chef, *Master in the kitchen!*, *Scrapp
When my Grandpa turned 80 we had a big birthday party for him. Afterward, my mom and I decided we needed to make a scrapbook for him with all the photos...that was all it took...I was hooked! My daughter was about 2 at the time, so I started on her scrapbooks.

Eventually, I got my mom, Grandma, aunts and several friends started and we got together once a month to scrap.

What's your story? What inspired you to start scrapping?

I started scrapping in 2008 when my son was born, so he did and he still does :)

My Grandma made all of us paper scrapbooks when we were growing up and I wanted to continue the tradition when my sons were born... Until I realized I'm horrible at it. I can't see straight lines so it was really hard to make them look good.
Then while I was goofing off online on night (thanks insomnia!) I came across a layout someone made... And started digging. I wanted to learn more, so I downloaded some free quickpages and my Mom told me she loved them. Then I downloaded a few free kits and the rest is history ;)

I started stamping when I was a tween and in to my teenage years. I co-sold Stampin' Up! with someone because I was underage to do so. It helped me earn free product since she didn't pay me in money. Because I was co-selling with a friend, I created scrapbook pages to show how you could use stamps in your albums. When I went to college, I sold my cards to make some extra spending money on my obsession. Once I got married, I continued stamping and paper scrapping here and there, nothing too big--I mean, what does a newly married couple have to scrap? But once I had my daughter, I went full-force, keeping up with her photos that we took (back then, digital photography was just starting) However in 2004 when my middle was born, someone showed a digital layout and I was shocked that you could do such a thing on the computer! I read everything that I could about digital scrapbooking, tried doing it in Word (which is what I thought I only had available at the time), until I stumbled across Paint Shop Pro on my computer. I went digital in March 2005, sold all my paper supplies, including ALL my Stampin' Up! products in 2006 and never looked back!

I think I scrapped since I was probably 8. I would take my Mom's photos and arrange them in albums with ticket stubs and memorabilia. Took my markers and papers and made titles for them. So that was the start of it all. I dove into Creative Memories when it was just getting started and paper scrapped when I worked at Michael's as a teacher. I stumbled upon digi in 2006 and was instantly hooked. I'm a graphic designer by day and the fact that I could do all this on my laptop was the perfect answer! My precious papers are still in bins and my kids like to use them for cards and craft projects. But truth be told...my cutter bees and tape rollers haven't seen the light of day in that long.

11 years ago I got my first computer.
A real cheap/old/rundown pc but I was in seventh heaven!
[now I have a iMac monster, with a nick-name of course].

One day I came across digiscrapping and the rest is history :). Never did real-life-scrapping, I jumped right into DigiLand.

My feelings inspire me to create layouts, they always did. No matter how they look, to me they are a little peek of my soul.
The only problem I hate is the 'scrap block'. Worst that can happen to us!

Oh, and I'm the only one I know here that does it. In our teeny tiny country this isn't such a well known thingy.
So I'm the only one I know that scraps and I love when I get feedback's from my family!

Oh dear... you had to ask....

Well, I'm 62 and if all the planets align, will be 63 in July...
I can remember my Grandma telling stories and showing things she collected plus Mama did too.

Somewhere around age 8 or so...I had a little book I started collecting stuff into. I used: crayons, paste, tape, and yarn along with a hole punch to tie it all together.

Then I got a bit more sophisticated in HS.
I 'scrapped' in those old magnetic albums of the 70's and 80's. I cut little tid bits to add to the story and journaled.

FAST FORWARD to whenever Creative Memories came around...[guessing...1990-ish?]
and non stop from there.
I've owned more product than some store fronts.

Found digi -ish early 2000's with a program called Journaling Genie. I printed stuff to add to paper scrap pages.
By 2004 I found an Adobe program [that I did not know how to use].
I started digi before there were real kits to use.

Back in the day, one had to make all 'stuff' following a tutorial. I've made many things [from scratch] thanks to the great mentors I've had. I've beta tested, product tested, tutorial tested from the best, the original.
Even wrote some of my own and have taught many.

I'm digi hooked, and zero interest in designing to sell.

Isn't that the truth?! I remember following a tutorial to make a ribbon!! Took me a few days to master the technique, but when I figured it out, I was SO proud of myself. Now...sheesh, digi sure has changed over the years!! Thanks for a chuckle as I remembered what it was like back in the day!

It was so fun reading through all of your stories! It's so interesting how all of us had a different beginning, but can all support one another as we do. I love this community!

This is what brings us together here at GS, our true passion for scrapping :)

It was amazing reading how everyone started. Each from a different 'spot', a different way.
All coming together to share what we love, AND on the best Forum around!!

Aww, such fun stories and reasons... and like Ricki sums up- brings us all together here at Gingerscraps!

I started maybe in high school, did the whole ticket stub, napkins from special restaurants, etc.
After we got married in 1998- I met a Creative Memories person, for 10+ years I paper scrapped/crafted. Taught at different places, went on retreats, built up a huge arsenal of s{crap}... lol.. And albums, oh the albums! I could seriously fill a whole bedroom just with a albums. I guess that, and the cost of supplies + no time, I stopped scrapping for a while, maybe about 2010.

I did dabble a bit in PS to make simple cards or elements to print.. but in July 2012 during the Christmas in July event at GS, I was hooked. Started with the challenges-always such a great motivator!- , then became a Cookie. Perfect way to improve, the gallery is super, uber inspiring! And now I'm here... right where I belong. love you guys!
