Talk about a negative enhancement. I don't know about you, but I have gone through so much trouble to rename the preview to folder.jpg in all my folders so I can a quick preview of my kits. It is particularly useful when I am looking for a specific colour range for scrapping a picture.

THEY HAVE REMOVED THIS CAPABILITY IN WINDOWS 11. The only option is to get a third party tool to do it.

SO - if you rely heavily on folder previews DON'T UPGRADE or find another option to preview your folders.

I noticed this too, grrr. I am pretty annoyed as I did the same thing as you, renaming all those previews. Out of curiosity, what is the third party tool?

There are a lot of things I dislike of Windows 11 and that is one of them. I don't like using 3rd party tools.

Can you view them in Bridge?
m

I don't think you have ever been able to add a preview icon to a folder in Bridge. Last I heard it was a requested feature. If you know how to do it, can you pretty please share :)

I haven't found one They say there are some on github, but I am nervous about trying them. Apparently the software on there is hit or miss.

I just discovered this! I was hoping you ladies (who can relate to my disappointment) would have a handy hack! LOL.
Thankfully, some months ago, I created a folder JUST for previews. It's a great reference tool, but having thumbnails completely removed in such a big update/upgrade is ridiculous to say the least.
In regards to 3rd party tools, what are you all using?

Oh my... thanks for the heads up. I haven't upgraded yet. I will push that off as long as possible, hoping they'll have a fix to preview folders. Like the rest of you lovely ladies, I heavily rely on the ability to preview my folders. Egads.

I'm not sure what renaming your preview folder.jpg displays, but being the stickybeak that I am, I searched folder.jpg and got 170,000 plus hits...eek....I think my stash might need a tweak or two. Many are multiples. Like Rebecca above, I keep a separate folder of the previews of all my kits and templates and access them through Bridge.

Just found this on YouTube. Hopefully this will solve the problem with not seeing the thumbnails/previews

This won't work.
What the OP is referencing is not actually a "thumbnail". It is an "icon" problem instead...since they have completely changed the look of the folder icons in Windows 11. It used to be that if you named the preview "folder", it would simply show as a "preview" of what's in the folder.
But since Windows 11 has changed the folder icon, this feature no longer works. Very frustrating.

Hubby and I will keep looking for a solution to this problem. I have not upgraded to Windows 11 yet. Hope the Microsoft people develop a bug-fixing update soon...because it really is bugging the heck out of everyone who counts on these previews for productivity flow.

Thank you for looking into this! It really does bug me a lot. :)

That bugs me also about windows 11 solutions did not work for me. I dislike that there is no Move so I can move things to a different fold I have to copy them to the folder I want then go back and delete the files. Also you can't drag and drop that drives me nuts I can't just drag files into PSE I have to right click on the flower I want and tell it to open it in pse what a pain. I really don't see much improvement over windows 10 but when I got the new laptop it told me to upgrade it right away I should have left windows 10 I would have to take it back down and install things so I will just put up with things for now.

I haven't upgraded to Windows 11 yet, but have been having another issues with Windows Explorer in Windows 10. I keep all of my kits in OneDrive and that is synced back to Windows Explorer but then all of the png files have a black background rendering them almost impossible for me to see them unless I open them each in the photo viewer window which is a pain. So I started looking for a Windows Explorer alternatives and found out there are lot of different ones. Some are free and some are not just like with any other app or software and they all offer different features. The one I think I have finally settled on despite that it will cost me just over $30 (it $49 Australian) is called Directory Opus which has been around for several years and has great ratings.
It has a similar interface as Windows Explorer but has so many more options and personalization and is so perfect for viewing and organizing my scrapbook kits. Not only can you see the previews in the folder as should work in Win 11 but also has a built in viewer so you can see your elements larger, but is also has an awesome tagging system that is completely customizable too.
For those of you who are struggling with the changes of Windows 11 or are just tired of using Windows Explorer you may want to look into an alternative and I suggest trying out Directory Opus and see what you think. There is a 30 day free trial and you can request to extend the trial longer if you feel the need.

I have been using Windows 11 for about 6 months now and I like it. I obviously work differently than you do.

I have had to learn a few new routines; ie. I must have PSCC visible on my screen in order to drag a set of files to it. It no longer works to drag something onto the taskbar to open a prg.

I also use ACDSee which shows the folder file so it is easy to skim for colors.

The Windows Search in File Explorer is very fast and I can find what I want if the name is anyway helpful. I also use the new Quick Access feature which really helps when getting around.

If you decide to upgrade and run into problems I'll try to help.

I downloaded Opus, have you found a way to get it to show folder thumbnails? I am not seeing those still. I am miserable with this upgrade, definitely going to have to find a solution soon!

I still haven't upgraded because I thing Win 11 dummies everything down. I hate it when you have to relearn everything in a new way - thats not an improvement! I just want to put my photos on my computer my way! Want to scrap my way! Dont need them trying to make things totally different! Improvements are one thing - complete redo? not so!

Sorry that I missed this reply, Connie, but as long as there is a jpg in the folder named "folder" that seems to work to show the thumbnail preview without opening the folder. Though even that doesn't seem to be consistent. :(

I just posted on another thread about this...but I did a HUGE update yesterday...took quite a long time...and I was shocked to see the folder previews had come back!
I tried doing the same update on my work computer, but that update was quick and did not effect the folder previews.

I got my update almost 2 weeks ago and noticed that but it is so so with the folders it is like half folder and preview is not that great I had gotten used to the the plain folders took me awhile cause now it looks so busy with all the folders showing things now . I forgot the most important update DRAG and DROP is back!!! :) I can just drag thing into PSE instead of having to right click tell it to open with PSE....Yeah!!!!
