Unusual Pets?

Well, lots of people think our Sphynx cats are unusual. They certainly aren't your typical cats. Extremely loving, inquisitive, demanding, active, affectionate. They've been described, in personality, as part-child, part-monkey, part-dog, and part-cat, and I think that's pretty accurate!

We have turtles. One Yellow belly slider and one red eared slider.

Do kids count? Mine are a bit unusual.

haha!! yes, kids!! quite unusual indeed!

We had snakes, turtles, and an iguana. I'm really bummed because back then taking pictures was not something we did on a daily basis. I don't have a single picture of our iguana, I loved him so much!!

Now we are pet free, hubs is not a fan of pets.. We are still trying to convince him, haha!

Not particularly unusual, but we have fish, Lots of fish! Our friends talked us into putting a pond in our backyard about 6 years ago... We started with 7 fish. Last summer we spent $35 on a net and I caught almost 2 dozen in less than 5 minutes. We figured there were close to 75 at the time which is serious overcrowding for a 12 foot by 16 foot pond . I put them a 5-gallon pail of water and we drove 20 miles to a fish/pet store that said they would take them. I couldn't bear to reduce numbers any other way. By the way, we also have 27 water lilies that started as 6 or 7. I live in MN, where -20 degrees F in the winter is not unusual. The fish & lilies spend the winter in the 3 foot deep center of the pond. and then there are the frogs....

Woo hoo, hubby took out aeration pump today and put in pump for the waterfall--maybe spring will come to Minnesota!

I had a chinchilla, but had to give him away before I had my first child. His name was Pharaoh. He was found in a Walmart parking lot inside of a styrofoam cooler :( People are so cruel.

Does a brain damaged boxer puppy count? Just kidding, she is just VERY dumb and eats a lot of stupid stuff and spends a lot of time and money at the vet LOL. Seriously though, we have a minirex rabbit. Also not very unusual but it is for us.

My boxer Baylee Anne had rocks for brains. She was obsessed with rocks! She would bring a rock and leave it at your feet and stare at it until you threw it! Silly, crazy dog... I miss her something fierce. She passed away last year of kidney failure at the age of 5. Way to young, doc said it was a genetic thing. I wish I had known what I know now.

We have had a little of everything... rats, ferrets, beard dragon, snakes, dogs, cats, goats, chickens, and the list goes on. When you live in rural Texas pretty much everything can be a pet. And be sure my kiddos will bring it home!

We only have "normal" pets now. Dogs and cats that the kids grew up and moved away and left their pets with Nana and Papaw. Well we still have goats and chickens but they aren't really pets... well sorta anyway.
