Two Page LO sizing???

I was wondering what size you all use when uploading a two page LO? My page looks so nice on my blog where I save my LOs for CTs; but when I made it small enough (900 x 450) to fit in the gallery and not exceed 250 kb, it really looks bad . Suggestions?? I wish there wasn't a size limit...

BTW, I use GIMP, so I can't use an action....

I am adobe... I tried gimp but could not understand it.
I resize: 600 on the horizontal and let the math do the rest. I also will post the left half and the right half at 600 pixels.

I size mine 600 x 300. I usually then also post both halves at 600x600.

yes I usually do 600x300, occasionally I can do 1200x600 and not disrupt the total size - so that's nice!
