Template question (and a personal challenge to myself)

Alright, 'fess up. How many of us get template packs and don't use them all? I am TERRIBLE about doing this! I'm not sure if I've ever used up every template in a pack. I'll use 1 or 2 most of the time, but there are many packs that haven't been used at all. And it's not that I don't like them, I just get easily distracted by the next shiny thing.

I'm going to challenge myself to use more of my templates. I want to use up at least 1 whole pack a month. I'll come back and post up my LO's once I'm done. Feel free to join in if you have lonely unused templates too. Give them a home in your scrapbooks instead of your HD's!

If you use up all your templates, please link up some LO's! Do you make pages from different years to give your scrapbooks variety? Or do you put them close together to give your albums cohesion? Inquiring minds want to know :)
 
I have a lot of template packs where I've only used one or two of the templates, and I also have lots of template packs that I haven't use yet, but I'm sure I will use in the future! I've bought templates when they were on sale, or when I had a coupon, or won a pack, so they do tend to accumulate. Most of them eventually get used! I am definitely a template junkie.
 
A super topic Jen. I probably have too many templates to count. I've acquired them in different ways: purchases, challenges, freebies, and CT'ing. IF for CT'ing, I use half of each pack. It might not happen on the same day but sorta close.

I'm a real sucker for templates on sale too.
There are some go to template designers I find myself looking at first when creating a LO. I often alter the template or combine parts from a couple.

And truth be said here...there probably is not a LO or a template that I could not replicate on my own if I chose to. And I still buy them.

forgot to add...I used to create templates for a couple sites that were used for challenges or gifts. Never sold any though.

I'm SO bad about getting templates on sale too. Those are the ones that are the least used, unfortunately. I know for CT work I'll have to use half, so the sale ones get pushed farther down my list. But I'll keep buying them because they're so great and make my scrapping go so much faster. If I only used designs I came up with in my own brain, I'd probably make the same five pages over and over again.
 
This is a fun challenge! I've barely been scrapbooking at all lately which makes me sad. However, I accept this challenge. I too will come back to this thread and post the template pack(s) I use all up and post the layouts here. Good thing the month is not quite half-way over yet. :)

Yep, that is me. I love templates and have hundreds upon hundreds. I am not sure if I have used a whole pack before, but I go thru my stash all the time and pull out temps that I have to use. Of course, as a CT, I use half all the time, and I know for sure that I have used 3 of a 4 set. Since I dive back in sometimes months/years apart, I don't really keep track if I have used the entire set. I wish there was an easy way to see what templates have sat unused for the longest time so that I could use them or trash them. I know there are some that I haven't used for years.

Have you ever used the exact same template more than once?? Yep, that is me for sure, too.
How do you "store" your templates? I have mine divided into folders. I have 1 for each designer that I convert temps for, 1 for GS, 1 for Disney ones, 1 for Misc., and 3 others for various shops

I'm pretty sure I've used templates more than once, but not in a long time. I think I did that mostly when I was just starting out and didn't have a big stash.

For storage, I have a weird system. I have all of my supplies from 2014 on, divided into years. I have all of my older supplies in "cold storage" on an EHD. In my current-ish yearly folders, I just sort everything by date. I keep a clean copy of everything on my EHD, plus a backup. I think of my yearly folders as my working folders. If I use a template I delete it. That keeps my HD not as full, and I always have another copy on my EHD if I really need it (which I never do). For my older templates in cold storage, I have them divided into how many photo slots they have.
 
1. Yes, I have used the same template more than once!

I did it! A little later than I'd wanted, but I actually used up a whole template pack! I even accidentally made an extra layout too...

So I used this pack by Dagi-



And I made these pages-





Then accidentally used the same template for this page.



Then I kind of forgot all about this thread...

But today I remembered, and I knocked out these two pages for monthly challenges.



And while I was looking through my SuperCon pictures, I was reminded of this (embarrassing) story. I had to alter the photo spot to make it work, but I think it's still recognizable.



Woohoo! Five pages from a single template pack! I'm pretty excited!

I think they have a similar look, especially since I used so many light colored BG papers. But they look different enough so that in a year or so I probably won't remember they're from the same pack.

I definitely want to try this again soon, probably with multi photo template packs. I'll check back in later :)
 
I have to be totally honest here...

I don't use them. Unless it's for CT work. I just don't. I think people who use them do a fantastic job and I love seeing the layouts done with them, but I just like to do my own designs.
I have a ton from when I first started scrapping, but I just don't find myself using them much.

And there's nothing wrong with that :) I admire people who can come up with designs on their own like that, it's just not my strong suit. Partially laziness on my part, but mostly because if I designed my own pages, they'd all look exactly alike. And I like variety. (Not that you can really tell from the pages I shared because they look so similar, lol)
 
I am with you Jennifer. I can (and sometimes do) scrap without templates. I do find that when I get on a non-template kick, my layouts start looking the same. Composition isn't a strong suit for me. I love love love templates. I have and embarrassing amount that I have acquired over my nearly 8 years of scrapping. I have a lot I haven't used, and some I've used more than once.
 
When I first started digi-scrapping, I never really used templates, just kinda put the pictures how they fit, lol. but then I started getting scrapping block and templates definitely gave me the jump-start I needed!

I don't know if I've ever used every single template in a pack, but I do for sure go back to the same templates often.

This is a good challenge though. Let me look for a set and I'll get scrapping! I've been in a slump this month so this will totally motivate me for sure! Thanks!!!
 
LOL, okay, this is kinda taking the easy way out since there are only three! I still need to make another layout...





 
Since I started scrapping again this year, I have totally become a template hoarder! I just glanced at my templates folder, and there are 411 items in there!!!! Plus, I have a separate folder for "USED" templates. I love when they are newly released or on sale...I totally grab them up! LOL
 
Ohhh I love this idea! Yes I love templates... and yes I have a big tendency to buy them when they are on sale and then forget about them and not use anything from the pack for a year or so.. I have to make myself go scavenge for all those unused templates. I have favorites that I use time and time again.

I am so very new to templates, i hardly own any. I struggle to use them. I'm always scared if I'm changing too many things, or if I'm not changing enough. How much do you change things? Is there a point where I am insulting the designer by changing things?
 
I try an use 2 from every 4 pack. I actually just this year finally finished one of Seatrout Scraps HUGE template sets and used every single one!
