Summer Vacation/Holiday plans yet???

Has anyone planned their vacation already for the summer? DH wants to travel around Michigan seeing Taq. Falls, Soo Locks, etc. I want to get out of state, if not out of the country. I'm thinking maybe Canada, especially since it'll be an anniversary for them. and we love Toronto! I also want to take my daughter to look at the some of the colleges/universities over there as well.

I really want to travel to Europe - that's what my best friend is doing. But the cost of airline tickets prohibits that dream. *sigh*

What are you all doing/planning/hoping?

So far, we are going to Hawaii for a couple of weeks and going to DC for about a week as well. Then I am going with my girlfriends for the weekend to a nearby city for some girl time.

We don't usually plan a summer vacation - we live in Vacationland so we usually stay in state during the summer and do day trips and sometimes an overnight trip. We also have our camp on the lake so we'll spend a lot of the summer there. We vacation in the winter when the weather is crappy here at home :hysterical: Cheyanne will be working 2 jobs over the summer and volunteering at The Ronald McDonald House so those are her commitments for this summer. We have 2 last college tours to do and we'll go to our favorite haunts over the summer (Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and our favorite places to do day hikes).

We are headed to Utah at the end of May to see the great sand arches and I am hoping some cave paintings! We are also going up to Massachusetts to see Mom's side of the family and do a little sight seeing in July. My favorite thing there to do is to go to Plum Island Reserve. Other than that I plan to spend a fair amount of time sight-seeing close to home. Would love to explore my state, especially our region of the state in more depth.

Last summer our family did something VERY daring, we flew from Idaho to Buffalo NY, rented a minivan and took 2+ weeks to drive back across the USA. With 4 kids ranging in age from 21-11, we were so scared. We didn't want to end up killing each other. The trip turned about amazing and we actually voted to forgo traditional Christmas gifts and take more trips together as a family. With college kids, we knew that we wouldn't be able to actually go anywhere until summer but summer is quickly coming! For Christmas we gifted our family a trip to Belize. We leave June 2. We are SO excited to be able to do this and cannot wait. If it goes well, I think we will be making this an annual tradition.

Additionally, my oldest daughter served a church mission in Hong Kong. She is going back to visit in a few weeks and my mom and I will be tagging along. It is going to be so crazy busy flying around the world. HK in May, Belize in June, and so many weekend camping trips all summer long. Hooray for a break from the realities of life!

My Mom, one up sister and I will be spending a week out at MIS. My husband and sons will come out on Thursday after school lets out. Then on Saturday my youngest is going to St. Louis for BSA summer camp. Hubby is going on Sunday after the race. My mom, sister (maybe my oldest) and I will be going to Mackinaw after the race.

Then at the end of July my youngest and my hubby will be sailing down from Mackinaw to south east Michigan with the Sea Scouts.
Other then that... nope, nothing planned here.

My husband and I will be heading to St. John's, Newfoundland. I'll be attending the Dietitians of Canada conference, and presenting my master's research in a poster presentation there, as well as attending a bunch of different educational sessions. It's the first time I've been able to afford to attend the conference, so I'm looking forward to it! We are also taking advantage of the fact that most of my husband's side of the family live in Newfoundland (so my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law and her husband, and my two nephews) and travelling a few days before the conference so we can visit with family and do some touristy things.

We will also probably head to Stratford, Ontario, on a long weekend, to see a couple of Shakespeare plays and/or musicals. We try to go every year, and the productions are always wonderful!

Wow! I love reading al your plans!! It is so cool to get to visit with people all over the world and hear what they do for summer vacation!

As for me... well my daughter is getting married on June 3rd, so I am gonna be broke as a joke this summer!! LOL But that's ok :)

One super exciting thing is that Missi (missdamsel) our site manager and my dear friend is planning on coming to visit me! We have been friends for nearly 10 years and have not met in real life yet, I am so excited!
I will also get to meet Rachel os Seatrout Scraps and a few other GS gals too!
If any of you live in Northern California (the meet up will be in Roseville) and want to be part of our meet up send me a PM and I can add you to the planning group on Facebook :)
