Sugar is bad for me.... :(

So recently I have cut out things that have obvious sugar in them. No Ice cream, no cake, cookies, candy, no sugary delicious coffee drinks, soda, nothing fun. I hadn't really noticed a difference in my body until Sunday when I threw a baby shower for my friend and I had a chocolate fountain and lots of YUMMY dipables. I woke up Monday morning with my body back to its old self of pain and stiffness and overall feeling craptastic. Didn't think anything of it as this is my normal life usually. So last night I had another bad day of doctors visits and a lot of unpleasantness at the UroGyn. BLAH so I indulged again with the left over chocolate and dipables. And again this morning I woke up in pain, stiff joints and just pretty much hurting all over. So I think I may have finally found something that is contributing to my aches and pains. So I guess no more sugar for me. It's worth it to give it up if I don't wake up hurting so badly. Anyone else in this boat with me?

I have debated. My BFF went Paleo 2 years ago. She had chronic back pain from an injury she suffered in her 20's and she was always sore and feeling down, like crap etc. Her son joined crossfit and my BFF decided that she would try it to see if it would help strengthen her back a bit. Then she found the Paleo diet. In three months on the Paleo, she had NO back pain, more energy, her hair and nails looked amazing and she felt better than she had in ten years!! She never realized how much pain she endured until it all went away.

She and her three boys all eat Paleo based diets. They do indulge once in a while and she says the same thing. If they have white sugar or too much sweet stuff, they feel like crap for days.

She now uses only honey or stevia in her tea. They don't eat anything not grown from the earth. They don't eat bread at all and no pastas. Pretty much wheat free but not gluten free. She eats tons of animal meat (but she won't eat red meat, it doesn't agree with her) and cooks with coconut oils and butters. She's trying to get me to go that same route, but I'm not sure I can give up my sweets!! I eat healthy but could do better I know.

I've heard sugar is the devil's food. Seriously, everyone I know who has given it up, feels so much better. GOOD FOR YOU KIM!!! Keep it up!!

I did a Whole30 reset in February. I followed it completely Feb - June. No sugar, alcohol, grains, dairy. No processed foods whatsoever. Cooking in coconut oil and loving almond butter. On top of the weight loss (which was an awesome bonus) I felt amazing. We as a family had a couple stressful things going on starting July-ish and I went back to my not terrible but not great way of eating. I am miserable three months in. I normally eat high protein, limited sugar and no gluten and I've thrown it all out the window!

I know for me, my body "tells" me when it can't handle the foods I'm eating. I feel run down, achy and just blah. Yet I still eat what I know will effect me????

I applaud you if you can keep up with it. It really seems like it's just what you should do, but it's so easy and tempting to indulge when that was a way of life.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Kim!
I have been thinking that I should start working sugar out of my diet. I've noticed that when I consume a lot of sugar/sugary foods, I wake up the next day feeling cruddy. I've never had a "great" diet...I really don't like veggies and our family has always eaten white bread & margarine type things.
I think I'm going to give it a conscious effort!

Stuck with the no ADEC sugar plus extra water..and I my case...still wine

Thanks Ladies, it really is hard to give up the things we love, but I am in so much pain and misery that its totally worth it if it works! Stick with it ladies if you find it helps you as well. Sugar is BAD!!!!

I think everyone has their triggers and not everyone's are the same. I eat a whole-food plant-based diet - no processed crap at all, no refined oils (only the oil I get from foods in their natural state like olives, avocados, nuts), very little sugar, and no animal products at all (I've been a vegetarian anyway for 33 years). I gave up all dairy products 8 months ago and that has been an eye opener - I feel soooo much better! No more head congestion, no more aches and pains, no more asthma attacks - it's been wonderful. If I eat just a little bit of cheese now I'm reminded within hours of why I gave it up and it's so not worth it for me to eat it.

Funny thing is that now I no longer feel "deprived" of anything - I love the food I eat and I love the way I feel - plenty of energy, no more aches and pains (unless I really overdo something), breathing easier, etc.

I think it's really important for everyone to experiment and find what works for them. I have been tempted to try Paleo, but I think I'd feel terrible eating all that meat. I know I feel better when I don't eat dairy. I know I feel better when I don't eat a lot of salt or processed foods. I know soda makes me feel like absolute garbage. I won't say I never have these things (I just spent the week eating/drinking most of these things) But I also know what they do to my body. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not. It's all a process.

Yeah, Dairy is a hard one for me to kick if I ever wanted to try that. I just love Cheese on everything and not having Ice cream because of the sugar is killing me! And I eat yogurt every morning to take my probiotic powder that the Doc prescribed to me which is a 900 billion prescription only probiotic. So not sure what else I would put that in....Maybe my Protein Shake drink....Anyway, I agree, finding out what your own personal triggers are is very important.
