Solar Eclipse on Monday

Greetings,

For those living in Mexico, the US, and Canada, there will be a solar eclipse on Monday. Hubby and I plan to travel so we are in the path where we can see the eclipse in its totality. I'd love to document this experience, and I'm looking for any tips on how to capture the eclipse without damaging my electronics.

Does anyone have any tips on taking this type of photo? :)

I did the one a few years ago in Idaho and used the filters for my camera. They are like the glasses that you wear. Sometimes you can get them on Amazon or in stores near the eclipse. They worked great.

Shana, my hubby is gearing up to take pictures of it. I will ask him when he gets home from work what specific filters, etc. he uses. He took pictures of the one a few years ago, so I know he has the gear. :)

Shana, hubby says you need a solar filter, or your will fry your camera. I know he shops at various online camera shops, but some of his filters he's gotten from Amazon. That's probably your best bet to get one before Monday if you don't have one.

Just out of curiosity, where are you planning to go to observe the eclipse?

I know it's after the fact but someone at work put the eclipse glasses over the lense on the iPhone and took pictures like that. It worked fine!

We are in northern Indiana and just out of where the totality was but decided not to travel into the crazy traffic to go that area so watched from home and it was great. I also put my eclipse glasses over my phone camera lenses and it worked pretty well. It was tricky to get it focus and they certainly aren't professional quality photos but I am very happy with the ones that I got.

Yup. That’s what we ended up doing, as well. Solar eclipse glasses over the iPhone lens. We got a couple of fun shots that I plan to scrap with! Yay!
