Scrappy Question #1 {Print It, Frame It, or Leave It Digital?}

What do you do with your scrapbook pages? Do you...

Print them?
Keep them in an album?
Frame them?
Make books out of them?
Keep them online only?
Other?

Tell me YOUR story!

I keep mine on EHDs and online only now, other than the books I create each year for my 4 year old great grandson Harley. I made books for all the grandkids up until they reached about 10 years of age but discontinued doing so after that. I was so chuffed recently on a visit to my family in Melbourne where the three grandkids (all in their 20's now) brought out the old photobooks I had made for them and we enjoyed them all over again together. Their Mum says they even show them to their girlfriends!!!

Mine are all just on my computer and older ones on EHDs.
I have in the past had albums of certain trips I did printed but they all got destroyed when our home was flooded 4 years ago. The website where I bought most from does not exist anymore as I thought I might have them reprinted.
Some of my scripture art pages I print and display in my home.

I print almost all of them and put them in binders. I don't print books because I scrap so randomly and very seldom am on a mission to get something like that done.

Sadly, I now have hundreds and hundreds of pages that need to be put into books. I have asked that my children come on Mother's Day to do their books. Here, that falls in May, so it will be a while. That is my big gift for the day - time to put everything in albums.

I am really fortunate in that our community has a camera club with the most amazing printers. One of them is perfect for printing 12x12s and I print all my pages there. I am running a little behind, but printed 90 this month and only have 300 more to print....

I just looked and I have 377 listed under media. I have done 2 - 100 page books. So that leaves 177. I would guess there are maybe 30 of those to put in a book, The others are misc ones that were done for challenges that I don't have interest in printing.

Hi Debra 👋 Your post prompted me to go check how many pages I have uploaded here....1,944!! Not sure what that actually means in real terms as far as the posting in more than one gallery affects the number, I notice a few duplicates in my gallery from back when the site changed over. Thanks for taking part in this thread. And thanks to all those above for posting...it is always interesting to find out about people's scrappy processes and preferences.

The large majority of my pages are on EHDs and online.
Only had a couple of books professionally made for special occasions.

Here's the thing with me:
Once bound in a book, it's there for keeps. No fixing it, no changes and guess what...the people I did these for, found minor errors in the journaling and now those books are collecting dust on the shelves.

My solution: I buy 8x8 scrapbook albums with refillable sleeves. Eight by Eight means I can print from my personal computer. If any changes are needed (had four from last Christmas), it's easy to replace that page for them. AND if the receiver of my pages doesn't particularly like one of the pages, they can remove it, or shuffle them around to suit, etc.. ALSO if they really like one in particular and want it bigger, no problem. I simply make it bigger and send it off to NationsLab.com where they do an excellent job in any size you need.

These albums are NOT as nice and professional looking as the bound books from printing firms. So there is that.

This year (I keep reminding myself to GET IT DONE), I'm getting 12x12 albums for myself. I want a stash variety to frame and decorate my office or bathroom...depending on what I want to look at when I'm sitting down. :)

Most of my layouts are created for designers I CT for or for challenges. I use photos of our grandson James or of the flowers in our garden. I print them when his Mum asks for copies to keep but mostly I share them on my facebook page. I have all my layouts backed up on EHDs. That reminds me - I need to do a backup.

Hi Jill, I don't think that having a layout in several galleries makes a difference with the count (I took the number of layouts per page X the number of pages I had and had the correct number.........but the duplicates are another issue. Either way You have done a lot.

My question would be when everyone has so many how do you organize them on your EHD. So it is easy to grab the ones you want printed in the future.....by folders of the people in the layout, year the photo was done, year the layout was created, have your unique naming system for each layout etc?

I did books for my kids up to the time they graduated from high school and now I make books for the grandkids and me. I print the pages at 12X12 and put them in photo albums for them. I am always behind in getting them done and printed and right now I have 2 years worth of printed pages sitting on my desk waiting for me to put them in the books. I still print pages for Madison and Isaiah even though they have graduated but I don't have as many pages in the year for them as I do for Eli and Cameron.

I bought CDs with a 100-year warranty, and I have another copy on SD cards, which lets me print them anywhere without any problems, and they don't take up any space, but they can be easily lost. I've printed some, and they're in photo albums, not books, because I know that if I don't like one, I'd have to delete it, and you can't cut pages from a book without damaging it, same like Chris I scrap basically for fun, sometimes when I like so much a layout that I've made, I turn it into a quick page, and later I add my own pictures, I save it in a SD card, in a memory card and later I burn in a CD, eventually I print it like a normal photo and it goes straight to my personal photo albums.

Because I only print/make books with my greatgrandson's pages now, I keep a dedicated folder for the year of his LOs, ie 4 to 5 years in progress currently, on my computer until it is time to compile the book and send it off for printing, then I delete the LOs from the computer. I back up new ones every month onto EHDs. My other pages are stored on EHDs in monthly folders. I only scrap here at GS so if I need to go find one for any purpose, I can always check my gallery here to see which month to look for on the EHD

I have a "coffee table" type book, 10x10 of each year's scrapbook pages through either Shutterfly, or Mixbook. Since my albums are often 200ish pages, I have to go through Mixbook for my yearly albums. This year it was $360 to print my album, where it was only $250 last year :-( I create a separate album for each vacations. Usually because I take a TON of photos (over 8,000 photos on my 2 week Alaska cruise vacation).

I tried something new recently. We have an Amazon Prime account that is connected with our streaming TV platform... and I was able to upload photos so that when the TV goes to sleep mode, my photos of layouts will pop up. It's a fun way to see them. They randomly cycle through until we resume the show or the TV goes to sleep. But we can use the remote to scroll forward or backward to see the photos and layouts. It's been fun to view them this way.

The Amazon upload to the tv is especially good for vacation scenic shots. Some of my other ones, well I wish I'd deleted them. hahaha

Wow that sounds interesting...who woulda thought it?? Not me that's for sure but what a great idea. Thanks for the input...stickybeaks need to know:)

@breoni I love that idea - I think I might have to look into this! I used to print my pages and make them into books for my children and nephews and niece but as they've got older I have stopped doing that. I think I'm going to aim to have something to give them on their next big birthday.

This thread is so fun! So many great ideas!
I have a few hard bound books that I got printed years ago, but now I print as I scrap (usually).
For my 12x12 pages, I resize them to 8x8 so I can print at home, then trim and insert into 8x8 album page protectors.

I also started modifying 12x12 templates to add a little row of images at the bottom, making it perfect for standard paper 8x11 size.
I did this for my albums for all the kids, so I purchased 6 - 8.5x11 - 3 ring binders and a huge pack or page protectors. Then I print 6 of each page and put them in the albums. I have the HP ink program so it tracks my usage and sends me new ink when it knows I'm getting low. I have been really happy with that program, good value and I never run out of ink :)

Wow Ginger, I love the idea of adding the images at the bottom to create standard A4 size pages, so much easier to find binders and page protectors of that size. Thanks for sharing.

I print them out using Blurb into 12x12 books. I wait until the Black Friday sale, to save 50% off. Still expensive, but half as expensive.

@GingerScraps. So do how do you modify your 12 x 12 templates to add on to make it for 8 x 11 printing? ....make it as 12 x 12, then resize to 8 x 8, copy to an 8 x 11, and add 3" to one side? could you show us one of your examples please:)

I print 8x8 books of my trips and of the grand and the rest are in folders on a hard drive. There is currently a great sale on printing (up to 70% off) when you buy a bundle. I am definitely going to get a few for my trips that I have been working on.

This is the first canvas print I've had done, it is 14 x14 inches...sooo pleased with it, only received it in the mail this past week. It showcases the grands and the great grand on the rare occasions across the years that all 8 and now the great have been together in the one place at the one time :) I will be doing more canvas prints now. I should add "I have my LOs printed on canvas" to my first post...chuckle.

What I do is make a new 8.5x11 blank canvas and then resize the 12x12 so it fits on the top (or bottom) of the 8.5x11 canvas. Then I made a row that can fill the empty space, it holds photos or I can put elements or text in those boxes. I just uploaded 6 layouts all using this technique :)
Here is a link to one of them. I can make a quick video too if that would be helpful, just let me know!

Hi Jill
I was thinking of making a book for my grandchildren too. I was wondering where you get them printed?
Thanks

Hi Helen, I always used a company called Artscow until they closed down last year, so I had to try another company. I used one called Snapfish for the last book I had printed and was happy with the result. They have specials running quite often it seems. I used to print 8 x 8 and insert into a photo album but then could not easily access that square size any more. Now, as I said above, I only print a book for my greatgrandson each year and all my other pages are online, on my computer and/or on EHD's. Ginger's idea above could be another option for you. Good luck, let me know how you go.

I have a couple books of special events; trips and things. I'll be printing the grands books if I EVER get them done!
But, for better or worse, most of my pages are "stuck" on my computer, and the cloud, for the generations to peruse whenever they choose.
