Scrapbooking Idiosyncrasies

My scrapping "routine" is painfully slow....I usually have my photo, title and journaling in my head but after that it all evolves...slowly...I place my photos, journalling and title (temporarily as I nearly always move them again)I look at my stash, drag a few kit previews into my page to see how the colours fit, I eventually choose a kit (I rarely mix and match or use a template), I drag almost everything from the kit into the LO and THEN...I tweak, I nudge, I do and undo, I move that there and this here then delete both moves, I finish up with stacks and stacks of layers hiding this one and that...then I might duplicate the page and try something else and on and on it goes ad infinitum....and THEN when I think I am happy, I upload and voila!!! I see something I should have tweaked BEFORE I uploaded. In fact many many times, I just HAVE to do the tweak and re-upload, otherwise I feel really edgy:(. No wonder I am in such awe of those of you who can complete several pages in a day !!!

How about you? !!

I start with the photos most of the time, unless it's for a CT layout, then of course I have to start with the kit. Once I have the photos picked out I start with papers only - I can't stand to have everything on my page all at once. Once I'm done with papers I start with different types of elements and will drag a few at a time and keep placing until I like it, shadowing as I go along. Once that is done the title, journaling/dating are last. I do not go back and tweak because I've learned to just let it go or else I'd get nothing done - LOL

My obsession is more in how my kits are organized... I use Picasa and once a kit is loaded I have to have the preview first, then the solid papers, then printed papers organized by color. Then journal/pocket cards (rectangle ones that are vertically oriented first, then horizontally oriented), round elements, flowers, foliage, word art, ribbons, and the rest with alphas always last.... how's that for idiosyncrasy!?!?! LOL

My process really depends on my scrappy mojo. Sometimes I know exactly what photos I want to scrap and then I choose my kit and create the layout... my hangups are either journaling, OR titles... if I'm really excited I can scrap a page in an hour, but then it could sit for 2 or 3 days waiting for the title work (in fact, last month I started a page on the first day on the month and the title went on on the last day lol). I was the same way when I used to paper scrap...over time pages would pile up without a title and then one day I would sit and make like 30 titles in a row... it's not that I don't know what I want it to say, it's how I want it to look that gets me.

Then there's scrappers block.... the only way I can get over that is to just grab a kit I really want to use and make a page and then find photos to go with it. More often than not it comes to me half way through the layout which photos would be perfect which helps me to add more theme specific elements. I actually find my best pages come from this method as I don't feel restricted by number of photos or colors, I can just let the creativity run wild. :D

If a layout doesn't come together for me in less than an hour, I scrap it and start over.

I always choose kit first and then find the photos to go with it. Sometimes I see a kit and immediately know what I want to do with it. I'm a fast scrapper; once I have an idea, I can whip a page out in 20 minutes. If I am stuck a bit, then it takes me more like 30 or 40 minutes.

I pretty much know what I'm going to do once I see a kit. If not, then I usually take a few days to ponder the kit and get an idea. I like to go off theme as well as on and I love to mix kits or use them in untraditional ways (like a Christmas kit for an easter layout for example) I like to challenge myself and I find that non photo layouts are a great way to boost my mojo and my creativity.

I am an ADHD scrapper. Sometimes I have a set of pictures or one picture I want to scrap and I mold my supplies to suit. Sometimes I buy supplies to suit a picture.

Other times I hunt for a picture to match my supplies. Many times I have bought a kit from a well loved designer only to have to sit on it until I find the perfect photo(s).

I am a template junky, soi that may influence what happens too, but like with photos how I use a template may be dependent on the kits I have, photos, or vice versa.

Finally lately I keep getting sucked into continually sorting my stash, which impedes my ability to scrap anything. But with over 5 years of supplies..... Well, I am sure you get the picture.

Thank you for writing my post for me :) :) I am all of the above! In fact, I spent all day yesterday sorting and tagging my latest treasures :( I finally started organizing about 5 years ago, and I find it less overwhelming that way. I'm very sl-o-o-ow-w-w-w

I am so envious and in total awe of you....did I mention envy?? I have NEVER in my years of scrapping known what I was going to do before I start other than photo, title, story. It is now at the stage where I have decided to embrace the tweaking and enjoy it:)..maybe it is like reading a good book...you don't want it to end:) Like you, I don't always use the kit for its theme, I am pretty much colour orientated...in fact I have just "finished" (yeah, right:D) a page about watermelon and I used the Cold Hands Warm Heart gift with purchase which is a winter/snow themed kit.

I prefer doing CT LOs because it takes me FOREVER to pick kits and templates on my own!! Doing CT LOs gives me some structure so I spend a little less time putzing around trying to figure out what I'm going to do! As it is, I have a hard enough time figuring out which photos I want to scrap.

I'm at the point where I really need to "tag" my templates by spaces and my kits by themes... Ugh! Another project!

As I am on the store CT, I start with the kit then roam through a few thousand photos to find some that match just right. I am a very slow scrapper too because I am a perfectionist and I know these will be printed and in my albums. I get a little prideful about my work and won't stop until I am 100% happy and satisfied with it. I like just scrapping my photos but because I slow, it usually doesn't happen very quickly.

20 minutes? Wow I am SO jealous! My fastest pages are usually in the 2-3 hour range but generally I need to sleep on a LO to make sure I love it. I too go off theme, all the time. Especially CT kits. I don't always have photos that work for the kit specifically so I love to create pages that don't match the theme at all, I would hope it would be good advertising in showing how to use the kit beyond the theme.
