Safety concerns...

We are going for cruising the in the coming month. Everything is fine, well arranged. But we need to leave the home empty for 15 days (we are cruising to the hearth island for 15 days). I have little worries about leaving the home. Our area is burglar prone and I afraid something bad will happen. I don't know what safety precautions are to be taken. I read that if you are going for a travel, it is good to notify the nearest police station about your trip that they will take care of your house. Though they do their best, I don't think you can enjoy the trip properly.
I saw a burglary protection security alarms from the alarm system Canada's portal. I am interested in getting one such for my home because it notifies the monitoring station if any break-in happen. Also, the video surveillance helps you to monitor the home from any distance. What are the other precautions or safety measures you would take while you go for a trip?

We leave a radio on in the house and sometimes use timers for our lights to come on at normal times. The radio is partly for our cat,but also my theory is if someone started to break in and heard that they would think someone was in the house. We absolutely ask neighbors to keep an eye out as well.

The timers on the light are great. Even for me; my older neighbors travel and I honestly can't tell when they are home or not. Lights and music play for a while and then lights dim and then by day's end they are off.

We have our in-laws stop by from time-to-time while we are gone, and we do the same for them. I like the idea of the lights on a timer though!

All of the above.

Plus, do not post to social media photos of yourself while you are away.
