Running Out of Photos!!!

What do you do when you run out of photos to scrap? Yes, I have THOUSANDS of pictures on my hard drive, but I am finding that I've scrapped pretty much all the decent ones. Our lives are pretty sedate and I don't get opportunities to take a bunch of pictures of things we do.

I am on a few CTs, so I NEED to have photos to scrap. Do you hit up your friends? Scour royalty free sites? Help!

I almost always use my own photos. There are rare occasions I borrow from family or friends. Dig out some older ones to put together some heritage type pages. Several years ago my dad requested a book of his memories. I'm so glad I did it. I used photos I never thought I would scrap.
Another idea- take pictures of flowers , scenery, road signs, clouds. Plant something and photo its growth. Food and add the recipe.
You can do it.

hahahahahaha....

Okay just had to get that out there because I can't even fathom running out of photos.

Really though, maybe scrap less than decent pictures? I do that all the time. I don't care if the photo is not great, I'm telling a story. I like Michi's heritage idea. If you have anyone who's gotten married and is willing to share photos, that can be a great source, especially with all the love and Valentine's Day goodies. I'm using a lot of that to scrap my best friend's wedding from last year. One thing I love to do is "Then and Now" types of pages. You can recycle pictures you might have already scrapped, and seeing how people and relationships have changed is so fun. Maybe try some photo-less LO's. You can easily put a journaling card in a photo spot in a template. Tell some stories from your childhood that don't have photos, or use a "representative" photo to tell a story. (That's the only time I'd personally use a stock photo) One more thing you can do is browse the gallery or pinterest and take notes on stories that inspire you, then go out and take new pictures. Or try a P365 project. That will give you lots of new material.

And looking through your gallery, I see you ARE doing PL so yay for that! One thing you'll notice while doing that kind of project is different themes will pop up. You can do extra pages on those themes, like recipes, relationships within your family, the weather where you live, etc.

I can't even imagine running out! That being said, sometimes, I just don't have anything of that theme, like when we had the Fight Like a Girl kit - I borrowed pics from someone that had gone thru Chemo and gave her the layout for letting me borrow. I have also used royalty free ones for the same reason or to add to ones that I had that are less than stellar.
Love all the suggestions so far, another would be to take a Photography class to help prompt you to go out and capture some fun images. If that is out of the possibility, there are on-line photography prompts as well.

Some people use royalty free photos in a pinch.

I have thousands of photos so I can't imagine running out. A lot of mine are pre digital, so I scan them in when I need to.

You can take photos every day of little snippets of time. Your dd going to school, getting ready to go out, playing, reading etc. You could also do some NON PHOTO layouts until you get some new pics uploaded to your computer too. :)

I don't think I've ever used anyone else's photos more than a handful of times. I also only scrap the pictures/themes I like with my CT duties, so the thought of not having the perfect picture bugs me. LOL

I have some older pictures that I can scan in, and that's probably what I'm going to do. They're just all so out of order and a lot of them are not even here but in California. My sister has 6 banker's boxes of family photos she got from my Mom's storage unit. I hope to get my hands on those to embarrass er, commemorate older stories. ;)

I think I need to get out more is my problem. LOL

Oh - and not be embarrassed to whip out my camera in daily life!

Yep - I'm doing a project 52 this year. I'm realizing our life is so boring...er, sedate that I have to force finding pictures. I guess that's telling me to get out and do more. With one car and a hubby working long hours, we're stuck at home a lot of the time.

Then and Now is a great idea! Thank you! My daughter's 13th birthday is coming up on Feb 11...EEEEEEEK!

I might actually take an online Photography class. Anything I *MUST* be at is a difficulty because we only have one car.

Non photos are really tough for me - perhaps that's a challenge I need to let settle in and try it out more than I have - like art journaling!

Your daughter and I are birthday twins!

I totally understand the one car, husband working long hours situation. Well we've always been a one car family, but there were a couple of years where he was away for 12 or 13 hours a day, and working so much, of course he was exhausted and didn't want to do anything through the week. I took a lot of pictures around the house and a lot on my walks during those years. Also cat pictures. And food pictures. Actually now that I think of it though, that might have been when I got into photo challenges. I did a month where I took a self portrait every day. I also tried to get a picture of me and dh every week that year too. There are lots of good challenges out there that can get you out of a rut.

I usually use my own photos, but having two boys, I sometimes need some girl pics for some girly kits :). I usually ask my sister to get me some or my CT members.. I love to use someone else's photos from time to time :).

I do that too. I am in desperate need of girly photos sometimes, and I'll use pictures of my friend's stepdaughter.

I don't think that will happen to me. I have photos from grandkids from years ago. I also have photos of animals and scenery that we take and I use them. Sometimes I just do a layout without a photo. I also do not have the problem with boys and girls as I have four girls and three boys but I have 10 granddaughters and 20 grandsons. Just a couple days ago I decided to do a 365 challenge and take a photo a day. That way I will always have a photo to add to my journal pages. It is fun and there a lot of different ones out there. I love to take a kit and not use it for the theme it was intended. I CT for several ladies and when they have an animal kit or themed kit I just use it for whatever I am working on and it always seems to work. Good luck and hope you find all the photos you need.

There's no way I could run out of photos. I have CDs full, my husband has CDs full and I take a bajillion all the time.
Heck, new camera has a setting that takes one picture and edits it in fun ways up to 6 times hehe. I'm never going to run out!

When I don't have the "right" photo I do hit up my friends. Recently one of my designers created a kit ad on for the super bowl. Being that I really dislike both teams and would NEVER rally for either team I hit up my friend who's son was wearing the cough cough Panthers jersey cough cough and scrapped it. Though I thought my eyes and finger tips might burn off from the blasphemy that scrapping a Panthers page when I am a Seahawks fan might cause! ;)

Though seriously if you ever need a photo feel free to start a thread asking people if you can scrap something I am sure you'd get tons of people jumping at the chance to have someone else scrap them a page with their photo. Maybe we need a photo swap thread???

We had a run in with an HOA member last night and I went around our neighborhood and took 5 bajillion pictures of all the "REAL" violations of the rules...think that will make a good layout?? hehe

LOL! Susan! My problem is not having my photos organized well enough to find ones that go with specific themes. They are all by year/month/event, but I have photos back to 1999 that need to be scrapped (and scanned!)!! AND, photos from my grandparents that need to be scanned & scrapped! AND, a new grandbaby! YIKES! I'll NEVER be "caught up!" Hehe! I hope my designers like me, because I'll be around for quite some time hehe
