RQOTD May 22 - how much do your journal on your layouts?

I have to admit I am not one to journal. I am lucky if I put a date on my page. I am not sure why I don't journal, actually I take that back. I do know. It takes me forever to write something. I think that is my main setback.

what about you?
 
Almost every one of my pages has journaling. English was my favorite class and I always did well, so I usually don't have trouble saying what is going on in the pages. I even have pages where it is almost all journaling.
I always figure that I say what I would tell someone if I was showing them my page.
 
I WAS big on journaling, I could not see the point of creating a page with photo and no story...then there came a time when the grandkids grew up and there were not so many stories to tell, and my scrapbooking dwindled to a halt almost (hastened by the closure of my previous digi home). Now I tell the story is there is one, if not I simply enjoy creating a page using any photos, story or not, and the lovely products available to us...I am happy to just be losing myself in photoshop:)
 
I'm a big journaler - I know I won't remember all the stories the photos tell, much less my kids, so for me it's really important. I guess I feel what's the sense in making a beautiful page when 30 years from now my kids/family will look at the pages and wonder when it was, who was in the photos, what was going on, KWIM? I do have occasional layouts where it's just one photo taken for no specific reason but it's a great photo and I don't necessarily write anything but I ALWAYS include a date no matter what.
 
My pages are a real mix. It depends on the content of the page. Some have very little journalling, some have a lot. It all depends on what I'm trying to capture.
 
I almost always write journaling, probably too much. If I'm ever stuck on something to say, I do what Megan does and pretend in my head I'm showing someone the pictures and telling them the story. I keep a yearly list of "stories to tell" and a lot of my journaling comes straight from there. If I see someone else's LO that reminds me of a story I write it down. If I see a kit that reminds me of a story I write that down. If I have a conversation with my best friend and we start talking about stories from when we were kids I write that down too. I will never in my life be able to tell all the stories I want to tell.

You will on rare occasions, see a LO of mine with little or no journaling. I can guarantee there is an accompanying page somewhere where I've already told the story. Sometimes I just want to play, or scrap a cute picture. It all counts :)
 
Oh, and I forgot to add Danica, I've gotten ideas for pages based on your RQOTD's before. They also go on my Stories to Tell One Day list.
 
I started a daily journal for the I don't know how many times about 3 years ago. I then journal a page for the day with photos, sometimes there are 2 or 3 days on a page and when I do the grandkids, I always try to say what went on.
 
I almost "always" journal something or at least the date [depending on how many pages in a series]. What I do not do... is include all the journaling on the LO IF one I post.

I would really like to do a lot more journaling than I do. I tend to get writers block, though. I think of all these wonderful things I want to say and then when I sit down to type (or even write), it all disappears!
 
Even if it's only one line, I usually include journaling on all pages.

I like my kids to know what was going on in the photos. Usually I do a paragraph or small set of sentences. Just to describe really.

If I don't journal, I try to use word art/strips to convey what's what. :)
 
I do not feel like my layouts are complete without journaling, unless I'm doing an album or there is a second page that has the reasoning behind the photos. Yes, a photo tells a thousand words, but no one is really going to know why I scrapped that photo if I don't tell them why it was an important piece of our family's history.
 
I find that if the pictures speak for themselves (which most of the time they do) I skip journaling. Ironically I am drawn to the journaling of others when I'm admiring and commenting in the gallery.
