recommendations on laptops

I've made a commitment to purchase a new laptop by the first of December (mine is going on 13 years!) I don't like making computer decisions because I don't understand everything I need to know. My primary use is for photos (2,500/year) scrapbooking, and the day to day internet browsing. What are the items I should be looking at?...how much internal memory, other specifics. I definitely want to be able to hook up to wireless mouse. and hook up to my 2nd monitor. I think I am staying with a PC and not a Mac (unless someone can give me some good reasons to switch). I have thought about just going with a desktop, but I I want to be able to take laptop when traveling/visiting kids. What questions should I be asking, items required in a new laptop. I don't need most expensive top of the line, just something that will handle organizing photos and doing scrapbooking. Open to any input.

I bought a laptop myself, an Omen. I works great for me. I was wondering if I should have bought an iPad.

I had not heard of Omen, looked it up and it is a 'gaming' laptop, so does it give you more storage and better display for doing your scrapbooking? what do you like about it and why do you wonder if you should have bought an ipad?

It's considered a "gaming" computer because I needed something that can handle the larger scrapping files. I do store everything on hard drives though. It's a large monitor 14" to better fit a layout without having to change sizes often. What I don't like is that with the cords, mouse and two EHDs, it's heavy to carry around with me.
