not sure about this but can you go to the layers tab at the top and then scroll down to layer style?
I used to use Elements but like you, have forgotten

I wasn't sure which place to post this query and I posted in 2 places! But it is indeed in the layers tab. I am ready to welcome my friend into our somewhat addictive creative world now.
