I am so confused. I am wanting to look at finally buying PS but don't understand what the difference is between the different products. Can someone help please? I have no idea how to use any of it and I will truly be a newbie with PS.

I need to follow this thread. Before I had a super old version where I just bought the CD and was done with it.

Now I'm so confused with the subscription options? lol..

Just a warning, I purchased Photoshop CC 2017 and ended up removing it and backed out of my subscription in time so I did not have to pay anything. Please use the trail version to see if you can get it to work properly.
It did not work well at all on my Windows 7.

It is a great program as I have been using Photoshop CS6 for years.

Photoshop Elements 15 is great for someone starting out and it can do nearly all that CC can do so maybe you should look into it.

I have an older version of Photoshop Elements (12). I bought it as there was a student discount available, and I was a poor graduate student when I purchased it! It does almost everything that I would like it to do. I'm not a huge fan of subscribing to software, although I know that's the way the entire industry is moving. I like having a piece of software that I can use for pretty much as long as I want to (at least until it becomes obsolete or new computer OSes won't run it anymore).

I used Photoshop 5 (yes, 5) back in the day when I was a web designer. I really liked it. Maybe I'll subscribe to Photoshop eventually, but for now, I'm content with PSE.

I backed out of CReative Cloud too after the trial. I reverted back to my CS 5 and I still love it. It does e erything I need it to do.

I had issues with downloading some of their apps when I tried it and ended up just cancelling my free trial. I use an older version though and considered getting CorelDraw if I like the trial.

I don't understand anything about the new way of subscription.
Why do they do it? Is that the only way you can access certain programs?

I'm with you Caylynn, I just want to buy it once and have it forever.

Subscriptions are good for those in the industry that really need to have access to the absolute latest versions of programs but don't want to have to purchase a new program every year. We have Creative Cloud at work because I have to be able to open any version of an EPS or AI that our vendors may send. For just general scrapbooking, I prefer PSE. I think the interface is easier for general stuff.

Following this thread.

I've been using PS CS6 ever since it was launched! I love using it more than any other program. I've already tried Corel, Elements and Gimp, and as a preset maker I never understood quite well the way actions are done and played over Elements nor scripts in Corel... it was so much work loading brushes and getting things done using those programs. I say it's better to get a version of Photoshop even if it is Photoshop 7 which I used simultaneously along side PS CS4! Also out there are many more tutorials for PS than for Elements... or it was just me when learning how to use the other programs -I'm a self taught person so I youtube or read everything I can to learn and improve my skills!

But if you can't get an older version of Photoshop (you know, before the whole CC existed - I hate it, tbh!), get Corel, it can also open and edit EPS, which is hella cool because for Adobe you might need AI also.

You can still buy Phoshop Elements in CD or through download. There's a subscription just so if adobe will have an update to Phtoshop CC, yours will be updated too. So you don't have to upgrade (or buy) each time there's a new Photoshop CS (which I don't think there is anymore).

I would like a newer version of PS. I have 10 and I tried 15 but I don't like the interface change. Is 12 like 10 interface wise? Does anyone have PS 12 they would be willing to part with?
