Printing bound books?

I used Shutterfly and went for a 50% off sale. There are a couple other good companies out there but I started with this one.

Some to check out are Persnickety Prints (love their quality and customer service is awesome), Blurb, Artscow, Mixbooks, Viovio. I like the 8x8 hardcover albums from Persnickety the best.

I have only printed 1 bound book then decided it wasn't for me since I don't scrap in order I realized after printing it that one of my pages belonged in a different place and well nothing I can do about it now since it's bound into a book. I think I will stick with normal 12 x 12 printed pages so I can move them around as needed. Though I do like the books and think they are beautiful but if you are anything like me than you just end up kicking yourself every time you see the book and that one page in the wrong space!!!

I'm right there with you, Kim!!

I used to print individual pages and add to an album, but they just take out way too much room compared to the bound.

I scrap with 2 page LOs 99% of the time, so no real need to worry about having pages out of order for me ;)

I use Blurb - and they often have 30-35-40% off sales

I struggle with that too - what if I accidentally put Halloween before Easter? Oh the horrors - seriously though I'm "famous" in my scrapbooking group for having to redo a whole page because it was in the wrong order. Christmas dinner does not come before present opening. And this was before digital so I was super mad at myself. No more having fun at crops hahaha.

But I found a Groupon for AdoramaPix and so am going to take a chance. And it's going to be a gift album so I'm super excited and nervous.

My question is - do I upload my page as a tif file (flattened I'm assuming) or as JPG? And to get it to less than 60MB while keeping the 12x12 (or 12x24) do I resize to less pixels or less dpi? Or reduce file quality size like I do with pages being uploaded to the gallery here?

Thanl you!!

I use to print my pages just on 12x12 photo paper from Costco but the books were so big and bulky. Now that my kids are bigger and I don't have to worry about them ripping my pages, I just have them bound in a Shutterfly book. I can get coupon codes and fit about a 100 pages in it. I love them and they save so much space because they are thin.

Once I flatten my pages, I have found they aren't too big to upload for 12x12 printing and binding at Shutterfly.

I don't scrap in order either but I do have everything dated and I don't print/bind in a book until I have enough consecutive months in order to print them. Right now I have about 200 pages ready to print and I know that at least January-May 2015 is all scrapped and I can print those pages. I use Shutterfly and I can drag and drop them into the right order chronologically.

I have never had a page printed at 12x12..I have done some 8x8 photobooks with Artscow for the grandkids but for myself, I just get 8x8 or 6x6 prints and keep them in plastic pockets in an album. I wonder what a page would look like at 12x12....hmmmm.

I love to print books. My favorites are the 10x10 lay-flat books from AdoramaPix and Shutterfly. Adorama's are the best IMO, but they have an upper page limit of 76, and I usually have more than that. Shutterfly always has a discount code. I print one big year book, and then a smaller vacation book. (if we go on one that year).

I still print page prints at Persnickety Prints when I'm scrapping older pics or themed albums that are already started. I have ongoing albums that I add to - Disney, Christmas, National Parks that we've visited, older pics that I get around to scrapping, etc.

Upload as a flattened jpeg. Don't resize. You want a full resolution jpeg for the best quality print. (300 dpi) 12x12 is good, even if you are printing as a 10x10 or 8x8. You can go smaller, but not the other way. Layouts are automatically resized to whichever book or print size you want to order.

I seriously wish we could get rid of the Dislike this Post option!! My fat fingers are to blame for this!

Flatten to a jpg. The MB are usually around 9 mb for a 12x12 300 dpi page. That's easy to upload almost anywhere. This is how I have always done mine and have been printing with shutterfly for about 8 years now.
