Please backup your files and check your backups

I've spent most of the last 2 days in tears. I had an external hard drive fail. Heart sank. Then I thought well, I've got the files backed up - Nope, evidently the setting to back up regularly failed and the backup is gone. I've lost years worth of layouts, photos, genealogy info, and hundreds of dollars worth of scrapbook kits. I've redownloaded all the past orders that are still active but most of the kits are not. I'm starting to download layouts from the gallery but the quality won't be the same as those saved on the hard drive. Better than nothing. So please, don't just set up a backup- check it regularly to make sure it actually is working.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. This happened to me several years ago and now I backup everything (usually in 2 different places) and check regularly. I do hope you are able to get some layouts and products back. Wishing you all the best.

Oh that is awful!!! I'm so sorry you are going though that!
Thanks, I sure hope the HD can be saved. I'm going to try to find someone tomorrow to work on it. Otherwise, I'll be leaving some scrapbooking sites - this one included as I just don't have enough product to continue doing challenges or posting. I was only able to access 17 of the 255 things I have downloaded. (just the last month's purchases.) So fingers crossed cause I sure enjoy the site! and get a pile of pages done each month!

When I had an old desktop go out on me the guy was suppose to be able to transfer my old stuff to the new computer he was a jerk someone recommended him to me. But he did not do what he said he would at least the smart alec told me buy a external hard drive case and but the computer hard drive in there. Hubby did that and I was able to get my things back. Maybe you can do that with the EHD that failed. I know now to back up in two places but I need to do it more often I usually do it once a month because the laptop gets pretty full. But I keep meaning to at least use a flash drive to keep work that I have done in a day but I forget to do that. I am running out of space and it is almost the end of the month so I need to back up. I hope this might help you or if it would be too much for you I bet you could take i into a shop and they might be able to get the information off the the EHD for you.

My heart sank on your behalf just reading this. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom. So sorry you're going through this!

Thanks, I'm going to have it looked at as soon as I can get it to the "expert!"

Mouth hanging open..... I am so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!! Please check out smugmug .com (i do not work for them) they are geared to pro photographers, I keep all my pages there and my photos, your stuff is backed up on six independent servers in six different locations... almost impossible for them to loose. This is priceless protection to me. and they have wonderful customer support. (the one time i needed it over a decade ago)

My computer recently crashed and I lost quite a few things. Fortunately, I had my computer kits backed up and my layouts. I lost a bunch of other things, though, that should have been backed up more recently, but I hadn't.

BIG HUG!!

So sorry, I do hope you can get someone who is able to get the files off, I have had computers go out, I bought a thing I was able to connect directly to the hard drive and get files off. I have an external hard drive that I just put my scrapbook kits, layouts, and photos on, connect it about every 3 months. I have lost files before and my dad's words of save, save, save would play over and over. Praying you can get some files recovered.
