Pictures for Kits or Kits for Pictures?

When you are scrapping, do you find a kit you love, then find pictures to match it, or do you have your pictures that you want to scrap and then hunt through your stash to find kits to match what you want to scrap?

I envy those who can scrap and then print a book! My book would be a mad hodge podge of totally unrelated layouts :) What a mess that would be.

I have such a backlog of photos of my kids that I don't have a chance to get a kit first! That's the whole reason I got into scrapping - so I could have a physical place to match stories with photos of memorable moments. If I do end up seeing a kit that I like, I put it into my wishlist so I don't forget about it and have it there if the need arises. :)

I have a really big backlog too, but it doesn't stop me from doing it the other way. I am hopelessly disorganized when it comes to selecting kits or pictures. I do, from time to time, work on an album, and I can churn out layouts that way....

I usually start with photos then buy the kit to match them, but I recently bought a wedding kit that I hope will work for my son's wedding/ :)

Most of my scrapping is for creative teams so I have the kit and then go hunt for pictures. Every once in awhile I will do a project where I have pictures and then hunt for kits. That is so rare though. :)

I'm similar to Heidi, my scrapping is very product-driven. Even when I wasn't on CT's, I would see a kit and that would spark an idea for a page. I'm very inspired by my photos, but products and challenges are probably what inspire me to actually make the pages.

I LOVE a hodge lodge of unrelated layouts though! I used to think "I'll scrap this trip in these colors" but I got bored and that never lasted long. I love variety :)

I go both ways. It just depends. Usually it is the photo first. Since I CT, when I receive a kit I sometimes have to 'think, think, think' of a photo to go with it.
My travel books are themed.
I have pages of just everyday us stuff too.

The grandkids- by year [although I'm behind on getting those printed]; and David will have a baseball book.
Sarah will probably get a special book of whatever she gets into. She says it's dance or she will be a mermaid or a princess.

Usually photos first. That is my main goal of scrapping, to get the pictures in a book. I print the pages and it is a hodgepodge of kits and styles and whatever, but when I look through the books (even books with a "theme" like one single vacation), each page tells a separate story, so I don't mind them being mixed and mingled in terms of kits or styles.

That said, I tend to work on many different scraps at once. Right now, I have out California/Hawaii trip, then I have our 2016 Disney trip, and simultaneously, I have my "yearly" albums that I am always working on. Sometimes, I just see a kit and fall in love and need it, but I usually have an idea how or where I am going to use it. Then when there are challenges or anything like that, I can just pull from any of the books I am working on and can usually find something to fit.

It's 50/50 with me. Some kits catch my eye and I just know I either have pics or will soon have pics for several LOs. Other times like trips/big events I hunt for a large kit/ collab that will allow me to scrap it with.

I don't feel so bad now :) Sometimes I think I'm all over the place, but it sounds as though other people scrap at random, too.

I'm usually photos first, but occasionally I have CT work that makes me find a picture to match a kit - sometimes even "borrowing" pictures from others.

It varies... Sometimes I have a picture and know what type of kit I want to scrap it with and go hunt for it. Other times I see a kit I like and find a picture to match it.

It all depends. Sometimes the perfect picture just has to be scrapped.
Sometimes it's the kit that speaks to me :D

Most of the time I stock up on kits & then match a photo to the kit but sometimes if I see a kit that goes with a photo I have already taken I will work that way too

I start with the kit and then find pictures. I have so many to choose from as I scrap one or two photos out of a bunch from the same day - so I can usually find something to fit a kit.
