Photoshop Elements 10 help-Text layer

I'm not sure if anyone is still using Photoshop Elements 10 (I know it's really old!!!) but I need help. I've tried searching Google and have gotten no help.

I was using a template from a designer and when I tried to add my title (using the text layer that they included), my font spacing went wonky. My letters are so squished together that you can't read them anymore. As far as I know, I can't adjust spacing between letters in PSE 10. I've tried closing the program, opening a new LO and using the text tool there. No luck. I restarted my computer. No luck. I've tried resetting the text tool but that doesn't do anything. I'm scared PSE 10 is permanently broken and I can no longer add any text to my LOs. Is there anyone who can help me???? Thank you!

Becky did you try to add some text on a new layer - not using what is in the template?
I just reread what you shared and I see you did try some text on a new layout.

I found the following when I did a Google search:

Please try clearing the preferences once.

You can do so by the following 2 ways:

  • Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Mac: Option+Command+Shift) immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
  • Go to Edit > Preferences > General (Mac: Photoshop Elements > Preferences > General), click the Reset Preferences on next launch button, and then click OK. When you restart Adobe Photoshop Elements, all preferences are reset to default settings.

Thanks for the ideas! What I had to do was open another designer's template that had a text layer and type in there. That seemed to reset it. I just need to remember not to use the text layer from the other designer!

@B2N2Scraps I have templates by a designer that when I add text to the layout and then do a spell check it does not work properly for me because it wants the text to be in Spanish. It is sometimes frustrating.

Glad you got help

NO, you are not the only PSE 10 user , happy to see another one. Are you still using windows 10 then. Last year bought a laptop with win 11 and when i installed pse 10 it crashed it so bad that windows had to be reinstalled. ( one of many reasons I returned it ).

I'm running Windows 11. It seems to run PSE 10 fine (knock on wood). I don't have a lot on my laptop other than PSE and Internet browsers so maybe that is why it works? I do shut down PSE every time I finish 1 LO. Otherwise it bogs down my computer.
