Old pictures, old scrapping stuff....what to do??

Welp, I'm losing my scrapbook room.

All 3 kiddos will finally have their own room. Joey (our youngest) has offered to let me share his room (so sweet!!), but I feel bad, maybe I'll just use his closet? LOL. Oh, the computer will be there, too

But what to do with everything? I still need some of the scrapping stuff when I make my cards or other projects. Even with school projects, the kids always seem to need flowers or buttons or papers....

And all the 4x6 pictures I was hoping to get scrapped that never happened. Some are before digi-cams, I'll keep those, but if I have the digital copy, should I just dump them??

I plan on donating bunches of extras to the preschool the kids went to.
Geesh, I even have baby shower cards and decorations from Jordan (my 14year old first born)!!
And all those vacation pamphlets, haha!! I'm such a sentimental hoarder!

Oh Em, Oh Em, Oh Em.....I would be totally inconsolable if I lost "my" room! I'm probably not the best to give advice but here goes if any helps-
Printed photos- Go thru them and see have many duplicates you really have, see which ones are the most meaningful- discard the leftovers. Keep just one copy -Then scan what is most important to preserve onto DVD. IF you've scrapped it digitally, can discard the printed 4x6.
paper scrapping supplies- donate or sell [I was lucky to sell some of mine but still enough for a small store to start up]
Travel Brochures- I have a ton too of places we've gone with info about the place with good intentions of scrapping that information. Well most of the time I cannot locate the right brochure and I google search for the info anyhow.

That is so sweet of Joey to share his room with you.
Good luck.

The travel folders would be the easiest for me to get rid of--I NEVER get rid of photos!! Not even many yucky digi photos. I can't hardly even have the WORDS "photos" and "delete" in the same sentence. I DID get rid of about 1/2 of my paper supplies this past year, but my room is still full. :) AND I have more in the shed that I haven't sorted through yet. I have a little roller drawer unit with craft supplies for the kids when they come to visit--and the rest I have pretty well organized in various cupboards in the sb room! I DO give up my room when we have company--AND my dh has an electronics area set up in there on the desk. I don't use it except for making an occasional card--or something!!

When I got rid of my stuff, I gave my granddaughters and my daughter in law a LOT of stuff. My dil has a Bible study group that has a lot of craft days throughout the year--and I gave a bunch to the Sunday School department at MY church, and I took a load to one of my daughters house that homeschools, so she uses a lot of that stuff too. I taught her girls how to digi, though, so maybe they won't be using as much. Oh, I also gave the teen girl next door a BUNCH of stuff too--she loved it!! We also have a "residential house" on the other side of us--for girls that can't live by themselves--and they got some of the stuff too. I certainly had a lot to share--and if I could get rid of some more, I'm sure I wouldn't have any problems finding a place for the stuff!! Good luck!!

I never get rid of photos either, and not a good person to give advice since I too am a scrap hoarder, lol. I have tried a gazillion times to sell a bunch of stuff but I keep getting stuck on "I might need that again", lol. My craft room is a huge mess from trying to box things up and then sorting through it again to make a card or something, lol. I'm pathetic really, and can't make up my mind. Your son is sweet :) Good luck

I started as a paper scrapped. I had tons of stuff. I seriously got rid of it all. Everything. I survived! ;)

I suggest find the spot where you are going to store your craft supplies first. Once you find that spot, you will have an idea of how much you can actually keep. I think that will make going through it all and organizing it easier!

As for photos. I have a HUGE plastic tote of photos and negatives! Once I have all my negatives scanned, I am going to toss all my printed photos. I hate having stuff that takes up space that isn't used. Those albums don't sit out. They are in the plastic tote under the stairs. Once they are scrapped, the albums can sit out! lol

I also think after I have all the negatives scanned, I am going to toss all my negatives too. I'm not entirely certain on that one.

I toss photos. I delete photos. Once I scrap photos, I delete the photos that I didn't scrap. I don't see the point in keeping photos that didn't make it into my scrapbook. They must not have been that great! ;)

I don't know that I am the best one for advice. I am not a pack rat. I don't like to keep things. It's been bothering me that I still have that tote of photos and negatives following me around. LOL

I seriously go through our house at least twice a year and get rid of stuff. lol

As for the travel brochures and such - have you thought of taking pictures of them and then tossing?

I do that for all the kids' artwork. It either gets photographed or scanned then recycled.

I love the layout that you made, BTW. Cute! Joey is such a sweetie too. He must take after his mom!!!!

Good Luck, Em!!! :)

okay, don't cringe...eek! I'm almost embarrassed, but oh well. haha!!
We took out EVERYTHING from the scraproom/office/room to put stuff in...

Here is everything (the stuff on the floor) in all its glory! How in the world did it fit in the one little room?
Behind the madness is a HUGE box, like a TV size box FULL of other misc stuff!
Three of the drawers in the dresser are full of photo in boxes. In addition to the ones on top.
There are rolling carts, plastic drawers, wire shelve.... A-ya!!

I also have this thing that I have no idea where to put. I love it though.
Sometimes when I was stressed, I would look at it. What a dork, LOL!

I have a room just like this...I used to sell the stuff and hold classes! :) If you are looking to get rid of stuff you can always check with a battered women's shelter or nursing home...a lot of those places take stuff like that. I have started selling some of my stuff...make some money selling it on Ebay.

Yes, that was me once upon a time, LOL. I used to teach classes so I always ended up with lots of extras. I have sold a bunch over time, but I feel like no one really wants it anymore. I could try ebay, I usually just sold on craigslist of something. I would make up "kits" with papers/stickers, etc... and sell them like that.

It's just sooo hard to part from all that scrappy goodness! LOL.

I need to follow Colleen and just unload, unload, unload! You are right, once I figure out exactly what space I have, I will make due. Or I can just make 10million cards with all the supplies I have on hand! haha!

Hahaha - I laughed at the make 10 million cards! ;) I'm telling ya - I love the feeling of getting rid of things…. lol

I have two HUGE moving boxes of stuff for donations already. I went through stuff before we packed up our stuff to move. We just moved and unpacked our stuff, and I already have that much stuff to donate.

WOW - how many times can I used the word stuff? ;) teehee

You ladies are going to make the people who receive your stuff very happy! (Colleen, I couldn't resist using "stuff" just for you. hehe )

Good luck Em! I still do hybrid and make cards, so I've kept quite a bit of my scrapping supplies/tools, but I did give away things I didn't use often. For example, a big shoebox of those scissors that cut with the decorative edge went out the door and I was glad to have the free space. Maybe sort by how often you've used an item?

Aaaw, Em! How sweet of your little guy to offer to share his space with you.

I think the hardest part when we had to downsize was getting rid of my craft room...it was pretty awesome (photos on my blog) https://craftytam.com/?p=385

I sold a lot of stuff on eBay and to friends & gave a bunch away. I still have a few plastic bins in the garage with paper and stuff that is used for kids' projects, etc.

At first, I put my pre-digi photos that hadn't been scrapped yet along with paper and embellishments into large ziptop bags so that I could easily scrap them. There were 16 large plastic bins! After a while, I decided that there was NO WAY I was going back to paper scrapping. I've pulled the pictures out and eventually will go through and scan, or check for negatives to take to Costco to put on discs.

I've scanned some of the kids' artwork. Some of it I will put in sleeves in their albums, and some are in their "memory boxes" - each of my kids has 2 tubs of "memory stuff" that they wanted to keep - or that I thought would be fun for them to go through when they're grown up.

Things like travel brochures, etc that I want in my scrapbooks, I've scanned (or set aside to scan when I have time).

I'm reluctant to throw things away, but once I know I have a digital copy, I'm good!

Good luck! :)

Oh Em! I love that you scrapped a digi page about your real physical scrapbooking supplies, lol! I feel for ya, not sure how'd I'd handle that!
Tammy! :loveWhat a room!!

LOL! Michi, it was like a store! It was so awesome. I had crops several times a month...lots of fun :)
I love digi and have NO desire to go back to paper, but given the opportunity, I would love to have another room like this!

Linda, those deco scissors....LOL. Weren't those just the coolest thing in the world way back when? I've downsized that room a few times in the past and those were one of the first to go, LOL. My mom, not a crafter at all, wanted to buy some at Michael's one day? Really?! mom? Really??

*THUD* Did you just hear me fall? OMG, Tammy! Your room is amazing. Those are the kind of rooms you would find in magazines...and you had to give that up? Wow, that must have been so difficult! How fun that must have been to play in and crop. If I knew you back then, I would have loved to come and crop with you!! But I'd probably just spend my time staring at all your goodies!

Update: The boys are in their own rooms now. We're almost done fixing up Joey's room, have space where his bed will go, I have the computer in there and we took out all of Jordan's clothes and madness! He went to private school from K-8. Once he went to HS and had to wear non-uniform clothes....oh my! He is a clothes addict. Worse than Jassy. YIKES! Wears them once, then feels the need to toss it. Geesh! I stash them and put them back in his closet, haha!

here is Joey, our crazy sleeper! We're getting his bed this weekend, I'm worried he'll fall off!

LOL Em! hehe This room was my happy place! I would just go down there to sit and have some peace! It was very hard to give up, but I know that at some point, I'll have something like it again....and I'll invite you down to scrap with me! :)

You really moved fast on that! This is such a great photo...I can't wait to see the layout. Two of my kids sleep like that! My daughter has a queen size bed & decided she likes her mattress on the floor better (less chance of falling off!)
I always thought uniforms were so much easier because they didn't have to think about what they were going to wear each day :) That's so funny that Jordan loves clothes so much! Does he enjoy shopping for them? I think it would be fun to have one of my boys as a shopping buddy!

What did you do with all the furniture and storage, Tammy??

We left the big cabinets when we moved. Everything else was sold or given away. I still have one of the Ikea desks because they're flat once they are disassembled and I still have the long tables in the center.

Looks like you've made excellent progress, Em. I need some of your motivation. :) I want to be more like Colleen too, but I'm with Deanna... I can't imagine throwing away print photos. I would have a really hard time with that.

Tammy... that room was amazing. I think it was bigger than my kitchen... LOL!

Tammy, your room was awesome!! It was bigger than my whole house!! :) was it in the basement or something?? Mine is just in a bedroom. I'll see if I can find some photos to post.

Those were easier to find than I thought they would be!! My room isn't exactly like this currently because I have gotten rid of more stuff since I took photos! But it's still pretty full!
I have 4 cupboards like this:
dh7qqg.jpg

33bonib.jpg

The closet behind the desk has shelves and drawers full of stuff--the desk is a took work shop that my husband added onto to make it easier to scrap at--larger area to work with, and a place for the legs!
k5334k.jpg

This area is always a mess--and it has more stuff on it now--how did that happen? I haven't bought anything!!
2wd2ecx.jpg

I got rid of almost all of this stuff, but it is filled with other stuff now!

I love it, Deanna!! Gosh, we sure are scrapping addicts for sure!!

I worked a bit more on the room yesterday and stored a bunch of stuff in bins.
I still can't get rid of those greeting cards from past birthdays and celebrations. I'm such a sap, LOL.

For those who have sold on Ebay, is it pretty easy?

It's actually a pretty small bedroom--our house was built in the 50's!! So that gives you an idea!! But it is chuck full!!
