New computer

I am in the market for a new computer. It will be a 15.6" laptop as that is all I use for scrapbooking but I don't know what brand yet. I don't download movies or music, the computer is used in the main for scrapping, emails, internet browsing. Any suggestions for the optimum brand, capacity, speed, memory etc? How about Windows 10, how difficult is that to get one's head around? I don't do change well...esp techie stuff and am a bit daunted by the changeover and learning curve:(. Please tell me what you have, what you wish you had, what you love....

I have an ASUS and absolutely love it! It has a 1TB internal hard drive, I have a 4 TB external drive that I keep all of my scrapping supplies on, 8 GB of RAM, which was a lot when I got it, I'd like to upgrade to 16 GB. It's a gaming computer, which I don't do, but it was the fastest at the time with dual core processors. It handles PSCC without a problem. I don't think there's a huge learning curve with Windows 10, I like it. I would definitely go with as much RAM as you can afford. I have 2 ehd's connected as well for backup and connect it to a 27" monitor when I scrap.

I have an HP 2-in-1. It can be used as a tablet or a laptop. I <3 it. I have the 17", i7 version but they do have a smaller version: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-env...1tb-hard-drive-silver/5873909.p?skuId=5873909

Note: that's the 15.6" version of what I have. I need a fast computer, because I do video editing, gaming, etc, on mine. So, that's why I went with the upgraded version (and I have like $700 in gift cards because of a wellness program at work).

They do have a cheaper version. I personally recommend i5 or higher, but the i3 is good.

I like the 2-in-1's because they're lighter, and more portable. Their downside is that they do not come with a DVD drive. BUT, you can get one for like $40 that works with a USB-drive. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy ;)

And, if you're curious, my basic stats on my personal laptop:

Thank you both. I think my computer has just died and I am typing this out on phone with one finger. Very frustrating. Waiting for computer guy to call back and hoping he can get the computer to limp along for a few more weeks to give me time to make a decision on a new one

Jill - I ended up going to Best Buy and getting a desktop HP. I love it. I have a laptop that is an HP also and really have enjoyed it. My son has an ASUS and loves it. My DIL has a Levono and loves it too.
As far as specs, I second what Jeanne said. Mine is a gaming computer but I don't game. I got it because it had the fastest processor and the most RAM. I run all my scrapping stuff off EHD which makes it easy to move from desktop to laptop.
Good luck in your search.

My son just built a desktop for me because I was so frustrated with my laptop!

If I were to get a new laptop, I would want at least 3TB storage (hard drive), 16GB RAM and the best processor I could get with those 2 things.

OK here's what I got, what do you think? It has to go to the techie guy for him to set me up but hopefully I will be up and running after the weekend and hubby can have his laptop back again:) Oh dear, any advice for Windows 10????

I'm excited for you, I think you did great and am a bit jealous of the extra 8 mg of RAM. There is an intro to Windows 10 that is usually included. Follow that and you should be fine. If not, just ask. Personally I found Cortana annoying, and when Windows 10 came out she was really a memory pig. I searched online and finally found a way to disable her which required a "regedit" from me. I would talk to your techie guy about, if it were me, unless you really want to use her. Just my opinion. Keep us posted

Congratulations on the new computer. I have win 10 and have not had any problems.
No need to worry about Cortano. Take it as you need it. She's great to ask a question to or...just use the win 10 search feature.

Loving the new computer, so much faster. I cannot believe how quickly it saves big .psd files and closes down, I used to have to allow quite a few minutes for the old one to completely close down. Windows 10 is not causing me any issues although I have only scratched the surface at this stage. I have met Cortana yet, so I don't know if I like her or not :). I find the colours are slightly different to the old Acer computer, is that possible? Or am I imagining that I wonder.

My input would be to say you are most probably right. Monitors degrade after awhile. How does what you see on the screen compare to what you print? That would be the best way to judge. I do use a color calibrator to calibrate my monitor every month or so or when I get totally annoyed with the software constantly reminding me to :)

I have an HP also that is also a tablet and I absolutely love it. The touch screen is awesome. I take it everywhere. It is just like my computer, but I can also flip the keyboard around so it is a tablet. I sold my iPad and I'm thankful for one device rather than two. I read all my books on it with the Kindle and Nook apps. I've got my Bible on it and all my notes. I have a blue tooth mouse though because I'm a mouse person. With my old computer, I find myself often trying to touch the screen though. I've such new habits now.
