Multiple Categories

One of the challenges requires you to add multiple categories, which I can't do no matter how hard I try. I have windows 11, when I try to follow the instructions for windows Control (Ctrl) on Windows while clicking each category you want. My screen just gets smaller or bigger but I am never allowed to select more than one category. And it takes me forever to get the screen back to the size I want.

Hi there!

I’m so sorry that’s being frustrating - thank you for explaining what’s happening, that helps a lot.

What’s likely happening is that when you hold down the Ctrl key and click, your mouse wheel (or touchpad) is also being triggered. On Windows, Ctrl + scroll controls the zoom level of your browser, which is why your screen keeps getting bigger and smaller.

First, let’s reset your screen size:
  • Press Ctrl + 0 (zero) and that should bring your zoom back to normal (100%).
Then try this:
  • Hold down the Ctrl key
  • Click each category one at a time
  • Try not to scroll while holding Ctrl
If you're on a laptop touchpad, sometimes it helps to use a regular mouse instead, since touchpads can zoom very easily.

If it still won’t let you select more than one category, let me know which browser you're using (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.) and we’ll figure it out together.

I use Firefox. It doesn't matter if I scroll or not (although if I don't scroll the screen doesn't change sizes) but I can't manage to get it to accept more than one category. I can click on two categories and it will show them both highlighted, but when I click on Save only the first one I selected shows up.

Shoot, I'm sorry that info didn't help. It is hard to resolve an issue when it is only happening to one person. It makes it difficult to track it down and resolve it.

If both categories are highlighting but only one saves after you click Save, then it sounds like the click itself is working, but something is preventing the second selection from being submitted.

A couple of things we can try:

• Open the forum in a Private Browsing window in Firefox and try again. This temporarily disables most extensions and can rule out a browser add-on causing the issue.
• Make sure Firefox is fully updated.
• After selecting both categories, click somewhere blank on the page once before hitting Save, just to make sure the selections “stick.”

If it still only saves one category, it may be something specific to Firefox. If you’re willing, you could try quickly in another browser like Edge or Chrome just to test - you wouldn’t need to switch permanently, just to see if it works there.

If you would rather not keep troubleshooting, that it also totally ok! Just let the designer that is hosting the challenge that you are having trouble selecting categories, due to a browser issue, and you got the "ok" from me to only include your layout in one category.

@GingerScraps Just tried it and it did work but it was fiddly as my mouse wanted to zoom like Sandra, until I realised I need to use the mouse on the little arrow not the wheel to move up or down to the designer I needed to choose.

Great! Thank you Anne-Marie! It is always so helpful when another person can replicate the issue and confirm the cause. It sounds like it is indeed from the "zoom" issue while using windows 11 and a mouse.

Hopefully Sandra can get it to work for her too!

Thank you, I will try using a different browser when I upload that challenge but I really appreciate being able to say I just can't do it, if it still doesn't work.
