March Scrappy Goals?

Any specific goals this month? Any projects pending that you haven't gotten to yet? What are you working on?

I'm editing some baby shower pics so can't wait to scrap a few pages this month with them. I am hoping to get some maternity shots this wkend with my grandson and his baby mama and those will be fun to scrap. Of course, new baby coming is going to be the absolute best thing to scrap about! Due date is end of the month so its fast approaching.

I'm feeling "springish" lately so have been thinking about scrapping some of my botanical photos.

I have decided to document our family stories that have become legends. It needs some editing - but here is one of the legends I am planning on doing...

The Shark...
Lynnette has not been in the ocean since September or October of 1974. It is not that she is scared of the ocean, you understand, but rather she sees it as trespassing upon the environment of our beloved, ocean-dwelling wildlife.

It all began in Hawaii. Lynnette was happily anticipating the birth of a baby in November and due to her increasing girth tended to swim in the early evening when tourists had left the beaches. She lived next to the KULA radio station at 830 Ala Moana Blvd and would walk over to the park, through the banyan trees, to enjoy some peace and quiet by herself. It was such an evening that our tale begins.

Magic Island Lagoon is a man-made lagoon with a rock barrier that protects it from incoming waves. Lynnette always thought it would protect the swimmers from various ocean creatures and felt quite safe floating in the calm waters. The bottom of the lagoon also had some rocky areas where the sand was not smooth, so it could be quite tricky navigating to and from the shore into the deeper areas. Not that the deeper areas were that deep; Lynnette could easily reach the bottom, though sometimes on her tippy toes. From time to time, she would sit on the edge and watch the tiny tropical fish swim around in the lava rock formations. It was her favourite place in the world.

On this particular evening, she had floated upright towards the center of the lagoon, bouncing her tippy toes against the sand. As she rested, enjoying the slight bob of the waves, there was a slight bump against her legs and she looked down into the crystal clear water only to see something slide quickly out of her sight. Soon there was another bump and this time, she saw, to her horror, a small hammerhead shark swimming away from her, only to circle and return to bump her legs again and again. Lynnette started the slow, difficult exit to shore, moving nothing but her cupped fingers in a tiny, delicate swimming motion, being sure to not move her legs at all, least the shark perceive them as a tasty treat.

Years later when telling this tale, Lynnette would remember clearly that it was the year Jaws came out and that it took almost an hour to swim to shore. In reality, Jaws came out in December 1975, a full year later and who really knows how long it really took to get to dry land. Perhaps it was ten minutes, perhaps fifteen, perhaps the full hour. The only thing we do know for sure is that there were reports of increased shark sightings in 1974, and one of those sharks had decided to bump her legs in the shallow lagoon where she swam alone.

To this day, Lynnette has never returned to the ocean. Very occasionally, you will see the waves touch the tip of her toes, but no more. It is not that she is afraid, you understand, but she decided, on that long-ago day in Hawaii, to respect the oceanic home of watery wild life, such as jelly fish, crabs and .... yes, baby hammerhead sharks.

I would like to finish my Reelfoot album from our January trip this year. I would also like to start organizing pictures for a NC lake album. My dad, his sisters, and his parents spent 25 years of holidays and weekends building their lakehouse and then my grandparents retired there. After my grandparents died my aunt and uncle took the place over as their weekend place so we still visited, especially when I lived in VA and could drive down. My aunt and uncle just moved into a retirement community and sold their Raleigh NC house and put the lakehouse on the market, it was sold Monday night. Very bittersweet for the rest of the family, we are all sad to see it go but no that no one in the family is really in the position to take care of it anymore. I would like to put together an album from all our trips there as I was growing up and maybe an album recreating the one my grandparents had of them building the place. I know that is a lofty goal.. so right now.. Reelfoot Album!

I was motivated and I DID IT!!

I feel pulled in a few directions this month. Maybe goals will help.

Priority One is to get my 2018 photos into my new library. My Photos library is corrupted somehow so I'm working my way backwards trying to rebuild. I have 2019 and 2020 so far.

I'd really like to work towards getting a week or two ahead on my CT work.

30 Days of Lists is a project I've done for years, and it's coming to an end this year. I want to make lists for all the prompts that inspire me now, and maybe make a few pages.

Scrappy Calvinball is also happening this month, so I'm participating in that a bit.

I want to get 10 challenges done!

I want to do at least 31 pages. It's a big goal considering I'm in the process of scanning every paper layout and photo I have. We had a flood in our house in 2018 and then the passing of my daughter. I've learned that paper and albums aren't the best or at least the only way you should keep your memories. I'm so happy with my process.

My goals for each month this year are to get at least 10 challenges done. More pages or challenges are a bonus! And I'd love to have a page nominated for Baker's Best once a month! So far I'm 3 for 3!!

Wonderful goals everyone! I have an added goal of wanting to scan (a few at a time) some of my mom's old pics so I can scrap with them. No one ever looks at her paper scrapbook albums but if I can and create digi pages, the family are more likely to look at them. I don't have a time frame for this, I'll just do a few at a time, here and there. I know survivor is coming soon so don't want to overload myself with projects right now.

BTW....Lynnie....what an awesome story. When I come across some of my old cruise photos I'll have to tell my shark story too.

OMG LYNNIE! What a great story!!!!

Thanks - it is one of our family favourites - I scrapped another one - "I hate mayonnaise." It is pretty funny, too.

My sympathies. I lost a son 24 years ago and another in 2016. Scrapping and photos are a wonderful way to keep their memory alive and to work through grief through creativity. I have my stuff backed up everywhere to make sure I do not lose anything.

I have only just started doing the challenges...it is very rewarding and I have been inspired get them done early in the month. I am doing the Project 52 - which I am enjoying. I have done it in the past, but have to catch up last year, too. I have done quite a few, but have a lot more to do.

A worthy goal, Rae. And I can't wait to see your shark story!! I would love to have a companion. Mine was not really that terrifying, but I was sure I was going to get my legs eaten off at the time.

I have many goals for this year. I need to edit all the pages of an album of my mother-in-law’s that I scanned a long time ago. I need to scan all the pictures I have of my husband’s family and my own. I need to clean and organize my studio as I’ve allowed it to get a mess. I also want to scan all my scrapbooking albums. That might just take me a year or more. I need to go through my photos and update dotPhoto.

Since all of us are at home, I am trying to finish up my 2019 project life so I could send it for printing (if shutterfly will still be open by the time I finish it up). I am also catching up on my 2020 so I will be up to date.

I'm late to the party but my main goal is to complete 10 challenges this month. I have been collecting kits for too long and need to start making pages. Challenges give me enough structure to get started.

Doing the challenges is one of the things I love about GS. I really want to scrap more now that life is calmer. Thank you Corona. #justkidding

Well... I have made progress on my Reelfoot Album. Photos are organized. Several sections have been plopped into templates and some of the pages are complete. I’m going to try and finish plopping everything into templates and then worry about picking kits. So far I’ve used three, with blue being largely the underlying color with green and purple being second. Hopefully I’ll be happy with it when I am done, I don’t like to stick with one kit for a whole album but I like for the pages to flow.

I can’t believe when we started talking about our March goals all this craziness had not fully blown up yet. I was still going to work, we were listening to what was going on in Italy and China but not fully taking it in. My mom had started to fill the pantry and freezers “just in case”. My last normal weekend was on the 7th when I was photographing my youngest student’s birthday party and it was an all day event. Then we managed to have one more week of school before closing down for Soring Break.. I think one of the things I will be doing over the next few days is journaling all the craziness of this month so when I’m ready to scrap about it I have all these clear memories.

Elynnia can I make a suggestion to make the album flow without using the same kit throughout? What I'd do is make the two facing pages using the same kit. The next set of pages may use one of two of the same colors again with facing pages matching, and so forth with the next two page spread. I know you can find kits with at least of few of the same colors in them. Good luck with the album!

My goals for March are the same as they have been for the past couple of months, and the same as they will be for the next few! My oldest daughter turned 18 in November, and is planning to go off to college in August (unless covid causes delay). My goal is to have her scrapbooks done and printed for her before she goes! I have so many pages for her already, but I'm missing several key things I want to document, and the rest of her senior photos. Aside from that, I'm mainly focusing on Project Life for 2019 right now.
