Lost so many digi kits

Ugh....my newly loaded computer had something wrong happen and it randomly damaged/locked many digi kits in two EHD's (I had doubles of everything but damage carried over to all drives).

It wiped out almost all my JoCee kits (22 of them) and I could just cry. I lost a few other kits from other designers but for some reason the damage affected JoCee's kits mainly.

I'm hoping to recoup some of them from my store downloads (don't know how long we get access to those). I am just devastated by this. I never would have thought that both my EHD's would be damaged by this glitch/malware/virus...whatever it is. It shows a locked icon and when clicked it says error and is blank. A few techs walked me thru different things to try but no luck, they figure the files are permanently damaged now. They walked me thru a factor reset and now I have to reload all my photoshop/lightroom stuff. So after just getting my computer back after over 2 wks in the shop getting wiped, windows10 loaded and increasing the harddrive.....this happens within a few days of getting it home.

So now when I buy kits I'm going to put a copy of the zipped files into dropbox so I (hopefully) have a save copy when something happens next time.

So, please everyone....learn from my terrible experience....try to get a copy off your computer somewhere, just having 2 copies on 2 different EHD's doesn't mean they will be safe.
 
I'm so sorry! The worst part of this digital age we live in is the catastrophic failures. Hopefully Ginger & JoCee can work with you to recover your lost kits.

I'm like you and have two EHDs attached to my computer thinking at least one will be safe. My goal is to get one to my in-laws house so it is safe from a house fire, etc. but I haven't gotten that done yet.
 
Contact the store - sometimes they are able to refresh your store purchases so you can re-download.
 
Thx ladies. I will see how far back the download links go and if needed, will see if there is a way to give me access further back. Most of my kits from JoCee are within the last yr so fingers crossed I'll be able to retrieve them.

I thought having two separate EHDs with double copies of products would be safe but they were both corrupted by whatever happened to my PC, so I think off site storage is the way to go. For now I am going to keep zipped copies in dropbox as I have an acct already with them for photos. I may switch later to something else but for now at least anything new I will store there. All my existing kits don't have the zipped folders as I never used to keep them, I would unzip and not think I needed them anymore. But now....I will keep them.
 
Sorry to hear that you lost so many kits. I use backblaze as an online storage to back up my ehd. Hope you are able to get your kits back.
 
A few years ago I had all my kits from another store do that same thing with a lock on it and was never able to find out from anywhere why or how it happened. I quit buying from that store.

So sorry!!! I have all my kits on an ehd. So that doesn't mean they are safe? Isn't that why we put them on there? I'm so confused. I'm worried now. I have A LOT of kits. What should I do to back up what I already have and the future ones?
 
I’ve lost too but have so many I can’t keep up. Hoping you can recovery some - if not all.

Oh my gosh - I am SOO SORRY!! I lost 3 years of kits in a EHD crash, but I didn't have them DOUBLE backed up. I think if they're still available at her store, the designer could probably reactivate your code to download it. I had some success with that and got maybe 70% of all of my kits back that way.
 
So sorry! I would be devastated. Thanks for sharing as I too have two EHD's and thought that would protect me. I have kept the zipped files on the 'extra' EHD of the two that I keep in our fire safe.
