Look How Far We've Come!

I have had a thought for a while about comparing/contrasting an early digital page to now. I started paper scrapping in 1994 shortly after we were married. I switched to digital in 2005 but technology/software and digital scrapbooking was still in its infancy, I hit it full force in about early 2007. I have come a long long way and even though those early pages make me cringe, they are still a lot of fun to see and watch evolve. The differences are amazing!

Here's an early "published to DST" page...sort of makes me cringe: 2007

My timeline on beginning scrapping to now pretty much resembles yours Jen. Oh, when I think back...

I didn't even scrap real people when I started in 2007, I scrapped my Sims characters :) Here's my very first digi scrap page.

Nearly my first. I started out making siggies for the Mommy Forum I was in. My first true blue scrap page was with Ronna Penner's "Just Peachy" kit. I am inspired now to find that back up CD with it on it. I'll be back with it if I find it.

And on another note - Jen - did you ever do my scraplift blog back in the day? I know your user name!

This is one of the first ones. Ha ha - LOOK at how big that staple is and how far it is off of the page!! My drop shadows were horrid back then! LOL

I didn't start digi until 2012. I had a flash drive with some older layouts that I did without shadows etc but I can't find the file!! ACK...

At any rate, my first CT was Amber Shaw and I joined her in November of 2013 I believe. Here is my very first layout from that. LOL...

I have come a loooong way since then.

Couple of my most recent layouts :

I found my flash drive with my early layouts!! YAY!! Thank goodness...I had to search high and low for it. It was stuck at the back of my scrap drawer (where I keep all my flash drives and scrappy stuff.

OMG I WISH I'd scrapped my sims! (I need to go scrap my sims right. now.)

I found a few. I think my first few actually weren't too bad because I kept it really simple. I think my "ugly period" came later when I got embellishment crazy and used unreadable fonts.

Though that heart was quite disproportionate...

These are all fantastic! I love that we all used overly large buttons and elements forgetting how BIG they get when they are printed. AWESOME!!!

Oh My.... I lost quite a bit of my older layouts when one of my computers crashed but I started digital scrapping back in December of 2005. Here is one of the oldest layouts that I could find. This one is from 2009.

And this is one of my most recent from the gallery...

Yep. I think we didn't know we had a "resize' option. LOL With my newer one, I used it and cut the size by nearly half on the paper turn corners! LOL

these are awesome! it is amazing how much digital scrapbooking has evolved!! I know I have a whole folder full of "beginning" scrapbooking layouts that are set for a redo before I print them.... tho I'm sure that day will never come since I have to scrap more recent photos too, lol

Yes, I love those gigantic buttons and things, LOL. I think the worst for me was the bad font choices that were totally unreadable or SUPER HUGE. This year I had some really old pages from 2010-11 printed that I'd never got around to doing and I couldn't read some of the journaling at all. If I had any advice for beginner scrappers it would be- print your pages! You learn so much!

OMGosh - this is hilarious! And really funny as the older kids and I were reading the older scrapbooks before bed tonight, so I saw some of these older LOs - eek! There are a lot of past pages that really make my CRINGE, but I've vowed to NOT redo them, maybe until I'm all caught up - LOL! At the rate I've been going the past few months, I'll Never be caught up!

This was fun! I started digi-scrapping here.. my first and only home- Gingerscraps!! It was during the Christmas in July special, hence the Christmas pictures, lol.

This thread is awesome! I started in January 2006...my very first page used absolutely no kits or elements...I wish I could find it. The gallery I was posting in then doesn't go back that far anymore :( Here is one of my earliest our there in February of 2006...yikes! Looks like I didn't shadow anything but my type...wut!?

Here is my latest...much better...

I may re-scrap certain photos...but won't re-do a layout. Really shows how this art has evolved!

How fun is this thread! Everyone has definitely come a long ways. Here's my very first ever layout.

I started in 2009 with a Learn Digital Scrapbooking CD that came with my PSE7.

I redid those photos not too long ago, but no idea what I did with it. But here's one of my most recent:

Yours look very similar in style to mine. My husband is a graphic designer, so he pounded into me to make drop shadows, so I had them from the beginning. They were HORRIBLe, but I tried!! I used to shadow type too! LOL
