Laptop Crash

I was having issues with a slow laptop for a while now. The other day my laptop started playing an audio while it was on standby and I couldn't wake it up to stop the audio from playing so I forced a shut down. And that was it. I am no longer able to launch windows and with that I lose all my files. I was still in the process of backing up my files but because of a slow computer, it would take many hours for a single folder to transfer. I'm hoping to recover my data in the coming days but there's a chance most of my photos and scrap kits are gone.

So that was my rant. Use this as a reminder to back up your files.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm terrible to with backing up files. Luckily for me my husband does that for me. Good luck!

Oh my... i am so sorry to hear that. I would think a good tech could recover the files from your hard drive. Thankfully when that happened to me years ago a friend of mine who is very knowledgeable in that area was able to recover almost everything for me.
I wish you the same luck... it is heartbreaking to lose things like that.
Now I use OneDrive and everything is automatically saved there so even if my hard drive dies I know everything is safely backed up to the cloud.

I feel your pain.

I had an external hard drive crash on me a couple of years ago and it was not recoverable. Ack! I now back up three places:
1. I have a secondary external hard drive
2. I upload my most cherished photos to SmugMug as that makes it easy to share and to download individual photos or full albums at high resolution. (Subscription cost)
3. I use IDrive as a backup for all of my photos, kits, and layouts. Again, there is a subscription cost and I have not yet needed to try to pull anything down from that site, but I know my content is there should I need it.

What do other people use?

Sorry about your crash. That's just AWFUL

I back up my photos daily at Amazon (automatically). Plus the main computer, plus 2 externals monthly.
I back up my kits on my server regularly. I also back up on 2 externals.
I back up my kits on 2 externals.

I quit using a laptop a few years ago, because I was burning through them every 2 years.
However, my computer now (just 4 years old) has been acting wonky. So I'm crazy about backups and I'm saving for a new one too!

I've been truly thinking about backing up with Carbonite as well.
