Today's the day we go pick out our tree. I'm hoping for something a little tall and a little thin! Chris said "you know they don't GROW like that right?" after I pointed one out I saw in the Lowe's flyer last night. LOL...yes dear, but I have seen real ones that are a bit thinner and we don't have a huge spot to put it in!

Can't wait to go get it. Hopefully it will bring some spirit to the house this year. A lot of people I know are just "meh" about Christmas this year and I don't want to be one of them!

How exciting! I will live vicariously through your Christmas tree joy. I put out a strand of Christmas garland last night and at 6:00 am one of the cats was running through the house with it. No tree for us!!! Lol I could only imagine the havoc that would happen. All I can see is that meme from Facebook with the dog saying, glad you made it home the tree fainted....

LOL! I was so scared getting a real tree last year because of our Carlie (she's a golden). I thought she'd try to eat the branches. But she went no where near it. She never bothered with the fake ones we had when she was a pup, so I was worried because outside, she eats every stick and branch she can find!

I was pleasantly surprised that she never even bothered, except when her annual three foot Christmas rawhide was put under the tree. She knew instantly what it was lol.

We go chop ours down tomorrow morning :) I prefer a thinner tree because the ornaments hang better - if an ornament hangs and touches a branch below it, it drives me nuts - ornaments must hang freely!

We've always had cats and trees. We use fishing line (it's invisible) and wrap it around the trunk a few time and pull the 2 ends to hooks on the wall. We use beads instead of tinsel/garland and hang unbreakable ornaments on the bottom. Have never had a problem with tree versus cats.

Trace, I saw your tree photos on FB...it looks gorgeous!

Danica, I totally understand your worries about the cats :DWe've never had problems with our cats & the Christmas tree. We usually put less fragile ornaments towards the bottom. We had a cat when we were first married who would knock the lower ornaments off and play with them - sometimes leaving them next to our bed in the mornings :)

Marie, how fun! We've never cut down our own tree - it's pretty price-prohibitive here. Your idea about the fishing line is awesome!

We had real trees in 12, 13 and 14 but I just could not this year. Last year when we went to get the real tree it was so bitterly cold and windy. Then there's the tying it up on the roof of the van. The the watering. And at the end of it all, disposal. Our tree from last year is still sitting all brown and dead in our backyard. So this year we got an artificial. I wanted a 9 footer but do you know how hard those are to find in the store?? Finally my almost 10 year old daughter and I, after shopping at 5 stores for almost 3 hours, settled on a pretty nice 7.5 foot one at walmart (T 44 if anyone else shopped there and is curious which model).

Even though it's pre-lit with clear lights, we still put on our massive amounts of colored lights. It is super bright. It really looks great but I miss the evergreen scent more than I expected. Hubby says he'll go get me a real wreath in hopes it can give me the scent I miss.
