If you're a parent...!

What are your kids going to be for Halloween? I have an Elsa (from the mini film Frozen Fever) with a green dress (5 year old) and a Stormtrooper (8 year old)..

Re: If you're a parent...

Those are great options! My 8 year old boy was Darth Vader 2 years ago. He is going as a skeleton this year. He has said he was going to be one pretty much since he was old enough to pick; but always changed his mind. He is finally going to be one this year.

Re: If you're a parent...

Your costumes sound great.

My son is 15 this year. Last year he went out for about an hour and gave up and came home. This year, he's handing out the candy.

My dd, 7, wants to be a mummy. Not a "mother" but a wrapped zombie type mummy. She has had her costume picked out since August. My friend is going to sew it for me, so we are doing real gauze attached to black leggings and a white turtle neck. We are going to make her a little beanie too for her head out of the gauze and then attached dead leaves and some dirt to it with fake blood. She wants to look like she just crawled out from a grave (her words!!!)

When we adopted her, I said I was glad to have a little girl to dress up at Halloween in frilly stuff. Nope....not her. One year she was a poodle, she was a poptart one year (my fave, I made) and last year, she was a "dead doll". Now a mummy. I swear, if she was able, she'd wear the scariest costume around.

Re: If you're a parent...

I love Halloween but my kids are all getting to old for the dress up part. I guess we are all just going to stay home this year and pass out the candy to the younger neighbor kids. Emma might dress up again like a Raider from Fallout 4 just for fun though!

Re: If you're a parent...

We are having a Halloween party again this year. I am so excited!!

We are doing a Star Wars theme for the entire family! My daughter is going to be Princess Leia, my son Darth Vader, my husband a storm trooper, one dog Chewbacca, the other dog and me ewoks. My brother and his family are dressing up too! His sons are going to be Luke Skywalker and Yoda. I told my SIL to be Rey. I'm not sure what my brother is going to be.

I seriously love Halloween!!! :)

Re: If you're a parent...

We generally don't celebrate Halloween, although the older girls (15 and 12) think they are going out with the youngest (3). The oldest, I have no idea who she is dressing up. It changes more than her outfits! The middle is cosplaying Cass from Supernatural. The youngest...if he's going, he'll just go as a superhero, wearing one of his normal shirts. I refuse to buy costumes, much less the kids know they are not allowed the candy in the house. Yeah, I'm that mean mom who makes them donate candy from strangers! The library appreciates it! Overall, I think the kids have gone out maybe 4 years and that's been my husband's doing. I always get to stay home and scrap!

We did that 2 years ago. On a smaller level. My son was Darth Vader, I was a Jedi, my husband was a Storm Trooper, my Dad was Darth Maul. It is so much fun to dress up as a family!

Last year my son was a Dalek and I was the Tardis.

Re: If you're a parent...

My DH hates to dress up in costumes. Always has. So no family costumes for us.

I'd love to dress up as a family and do something like the Simpsons or a theme like Harry Potter !

Re: If you're a parent...

My daughter is going to be Jessie and my youngest son Woody from Toy Story. My oldest broke my heart by refusing to be Buzz :( - he will be Hawkeye.

Re: If you're a parent...

Did you try bribery? Thats how I get my kids to do most things. Or I say "Drew/Kyla, I do sooo much for you. Do you think maybe you could do this for me." heh heh

Re: If you're a parent...

My grandson is going to be Peter Pan, and granddaughter will be Tinkerbell. We go to their house for Halloween. Gave up on our neighborhood years ago when the cute little ones were not around much and the older ones - too old to T n T were rude.

This year my daughter and her friends are going as "Crazy ____ Ladies." So far we have a crazy penguin lady, a crazy monkey lady, and a crazy otter lady. They're wearing robes, curlers, slippers, and will have as many stuffed animals of their chosen variety pinned on their robes as we can find.

I am not sure how old your oldest is, but we did a Toy Story theme one year and my oldest son was the Green Army Man! It was such a hit. We found army fatigues & helmet at a thrift store, painted them green and did green face make-up. He was 12 at the time.
We actually all went to Disneyland, so we had Woody (husband), Bo Peep (me), Jesse (MIL), Buzz (my 3 yo), Tour Guide Barbie (my 7 yo daughter), Exercise Barbie (my 9 yo daughter), the Treasure Troll (my mom) and then my oldest
The #5 pic shows us all

Re: If you're a parent...

As for this year. We are once again returning to Disneyland for Halloween. This will be a our second time, but we are more prepared this time. I got everyone talked into a group theme - Haunted Mansion and have been furiously putting together costumes for everyone that are mostly the Stretching Portraits
Husband = Mayor on Dynamite, Me = Old Constance on Tombstone, 16 yo son = Hat Box Ghost, 13 yo Daughter = Tightrope Ballerina, 11 yo daughter = Madame Leota, 6 yo son = 3 men in quicksand

currently working thru the problems on making my son all 3 men, instruments float above Leota's head, making a tombstone to carry, handbag out of an alligator

Re: If you're a parent...

Halloween is HUGE at our house because my husband is insane about it. Insane. I have the LOs to prove it ;)

This year, my 8 year old wants to be the Headless Horseman and my 10 year old wants to be a Werewolf.

Well My dd decided she didn't want to be a mummy anymore. She now wants to be a zombie bride. So we got her a dress from Value Village that looks like something a zombie would marry in and she will wear my wedding veil and a tiara we got her as well. I bought latex makeup with fake blood and some brown and green face paint. I am going to doctor her up! LOL...

I'm trying to find some paper or dried flowers somewhere so I can smear them with dirt and blood too for her bouquet.

I don't know who has more fun on Halloween..them or ME!

Man, it is getting down to the wire here. I have until Wednesday night (maybe Thursday morning) to finish all 6 costumes. I have GRAND plans for each of them. I have 1 done (but not her candy bag), 4 started (2 almost done), and 1 not started at all. They each want a special candy bag that matches their costumes.
Here is my Tightrope Walker from the Haunted Mansion Stretching Portrait

She wants to have a candy bag that looks like the crocodile, so that people have to put their hand thru the crocodile teeth to put candy in! lol

This is what we are re-creating

Plus a Hatbox Ghost for my 16 yo and a Madame Leota for my 11 yo.
