Ideas for Making a no-photos children's book

I have an idea to make my granddaughter for her birthday (turning 7) a book (free Shutterfly til Monday) using the kit "Be a Unicorn Grab bag" by LouCee Creations. It is so cute and she just loves unicorns! I want to make it a story and not really use photos. I want to make it using her name as the unicorn. Soooo... any ideas? I know I have a time crunch here, but just need to do it and if someone already has an idea or a book I could go to for inspiration I would much appreciate it.

I don't know of a book but you could just let the goodies in the grab bag be the inspiration for your story. The journal card "Roll me in fairydust.... and the word strips "I was born to be a unicorn" and "Today I choose to be a unicorn" and the wand element could be the beginnings of the story of your granddaughter's desire and change into a unicorn. I see there is a rainbow to go to in her adventures. And the wee little pink and blue unicorns could be her children, brothers, sisters, cousins or close friends- you could even use their names. Lots of sweet treat elements for her to eat on her journey after arriving to the destination. How cute is the unicorn ice cream cone! The sun and cloud elements- could be a storm she has to travel through or the clouds that gave welcomed relief from the heat of the sun on her journey. And stars for travelling by night. There are gems and jewel shapes- is that what she is in search of? And the wings- she could be a winged unicorn!. The kit offers great potential for a wonderful story- let your imagination fly. Have fun and share the results with us, too!

Sooo, I took a break from the computer to do some weeding. My mind wanders with that task and of course it wandered to unicorn land. Perhaps that cute little "uni-cone" is actually a dear friend (person or unicorn)who has been turned into a tasty treat for the baddies in the land by some not-so-nice unicorn lord. Hmm...I wonder of the winged unicorn in the kit could be this wicked unicorn..... Anyway, it could be your granddaughter's driving force to help this poor "uni-cone" become a unicorn. She probably would need to collect a variety of jewels and gems to bribe for a magic spell to reverse the curse. Oh my - I think I need to stop letting my mind wander hehe

I have got to quit weeding... and wandering in my thoughts. Rather than create a fictional story, what about a book about her? Your recollections or stories shared to you about funny things she has said, or the funny way she pronounced words when learning to speak. Favorite toys at different ages, favorite songs, favorite whatever. Is there a story behind how her name was chosen? Retell special memories and events in her life that she probably was to young to form a memory of. All the tidbits of info or memory journalings could be on the different pretty pages you make with the kit. One story could be when did she develop a fondness for unicorns and how- was it from a movie. With a series of recollections you have the fun of creating several pages and if you run out of time to finish all would like, it would still be a great gift because there doesn't have to be an actual ending.. You wouldn't have to worry about finishing a fictional story. Good luck with the project. No matter how it goes your granddaughter will think it is a very special gift- made with love.

Thanks again for the ideas! I actually had the idea to make it about her and her shyness. The one sitting unicorn looks a little shy. I need to get going and get the ideas flowing. So many other things seem to get in the way, like Father's Day! Who needs one! ;)

I think you should do this book! What a fun imagination. I just dwell on the weeds when I am out there in the garden and often wonder why I even have a garden since all that grows is weeds. :)

I have a couple of stories in my gallery that were illustrated with kits. It is fun to do. I am not particularly happy with them because I was in a hurry, but if you take your time you could do way better :)

I don't have any suggestions but would love to see what you come up. I never thought of turning the kits into little books for kids. Love it. I need to put my thinking cap on!
