I have a template problem....

As in, I have acquired (through CT work and buying) almost 100 packs of templates. Since January.

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that, but not really? Maybe a little?

So I have a list (of course I do). I set a challenge for myself a couple of years ago to try to use all the templates in a pack. I tend to only use half the pack and then move on to the next pretty shiny thing. I'm thinking about doing something similar for the remainder of the year.

Right now I have 89 templates from 2019. If I use a whole pack, it goes off the list. If I acquire a new pack, the list grows. I really don't want the list to grow past 100.

Oh crap, I just remembered that I'm guest CT'ing for two template makers this fall... that could be a problem...

So yeah, I guess I'd better get to scrapping. I'll use this thread to post my progress, because accountability!

Feel free to tell me your embarrassing buying habits, or cheer me on. Or judge me, that's fine, I can take it :kisses

Also, when I told my dear friend Em about this, she said "Oh no, don't ever count them".... But at that point it was too late. hehe Taking a note of that for 2020....

I, too, have a template problem. Most of mine are older though, so they aren't of much use for today's styles. I haven't counted how many I have, though that's a good idea. :)

I collect templates but seldom use them. I don't know why I even buy them, except it seems like a good idea at the time.

It seems to take forever to delete all the little flowers and leaves and squiggles that are included in the template, so I look at them and think "I can't be bothered."

But I keep buying them!

Hi, I'm Lynn and I'm a temp-o-holic...

I would like to say that I'm embarrassed, but unfortunately I can't. I haven't counted, I think I'd be scared to. I'm a CT for two template designers-on purpose, because I can't get enough of them. I said that if I could become a CT for these two ladies, I would stop buying templates, but every once in a while I see a template that I just can't resist from someone else and I buy it. Whether I use it or not, I cannot tell you, but I buy it.

I use to put all of my templates in one folder, but I have so many now that I have to have separate folders for each designer. I'm so bad.

Okay, there's my confession. Maybe I should count them.... Nah hehe

Question for you ladies. I'm always trying to find a good alpha for what I'm working on and it's usually not the alpha in the kit I'm using. I've always kept my entire kits together. How do you do it? Do you separate your kits? I'm thinking of putting all my alphas in a folder by themselves. Oh lord, do I need to confess how many kits I have. That's a whole other story!!!! Anyway, what do you do with your alphas? I need to do something else with mine.

Have a great day!

I don't know how many Templates I have, but I don't use them to much... I need to work on using them more... Lynn I keep all my kits together, but not sure if my way is the best, wish I knew a better way of filing things... LOL I don't use the Alphas much, not sure why because some of them are awesome... So many kits and not enough time to scrap them all... :( ... And I am addicted to buying them... :) What to do What to do... LOL

I have all my GS downloads in a single folder, organised by designer name into hundreds of separate folders, but I also have three folders in there that I look though most regularly. One is call AA Previews (AA just so it's at the top of my list), and it just contains the previews of all the kits I own, so that I can look through and see at a glance which one might be best for what I want to create. I also have one folder each for templates and alphas previews. They JUST contain jpeg previews of templates and alphas, so again, I can look through quickly and easily and decide what would be best for my current project. I often use alphas from other kits, so having the folders like this makes it much easier for me. :)

I'm not going to go through and count how many templates I have, but I just looked at the properties of my Ginger Scraps folder :shh Just under 60,000 files in 1800 folders :P

I don't know how many templates I have either and don't care to count but my whole scrapbooking folder is 157,257 Files, 6,755 Folders. This includes all of my designers and companies. YIKES!

hehe I feel so much better! I think I'm going to take a day and move my stuff around. Well, when I get a free day, lol...

Oh my goodness YES! I too am a big template collector . . . but only a few per pack tend to "speak to me." I do find a handful that I keep going back to again and again!

I also collect CU stuff . . . occasionally creating my own papers and such, but rarely ever using the stuff. Why, why do I do this?

My template folder tells me I have 339 template packs. This is a large number for someone who arrived here at GS with a preconceived idea that templates were not conducive to extending or growing the creativity process, I would never use them at my previous digi home and took pride in my own page designs. Oh boy, my closed mind has been opened dramatically since then. I simply LOVE them now and rarely make a page that doesn't involve the starting base of a template, the finished product may not look anything like the template I started with by the time I finish the LO but almost every page starts with a template. We live and learn and grow!!

That's an interesting point. I'm concentrating on the "latest and greatest" but I'm very curious to see if some of my really old packs would still be cute. I know I have templates from Dagi, Connie, and maybe Aprilisa that are at least 5+ years old.

Oh no Lynnie! That's funny though. I think I use templates with a ton of flower layers almost as a mediation practice... put on my flower... delete their flower... shadow my flower... duplicate my flower... It's a 45 step process that is weirdly relaxing for me. :D

OMG Lynn I've said the same thing to myself! If I get on this CT, surely I won't buy so much, right? WRONG, LOL! But I justify it to myself by saying it keeps me in a "cycle of creativity" (My husband says I can justify anything to myself if I try, and he's not wrong)

I think dividing your templates into designers can be helpful, especially if you're familiar with their style. You can say "I'm in the mood for a floofy LO with lots of LO's so I'll look in my X Designer folder"

As for alphas, maybe duplicate the folders with your 10 favorite alphas and put them in a Favorites folder separately for easy access?

Oh WOW! Now I'm definitely scared to look at my numbers.

Ohhh CU stuff is a BIG problem for me too. That could be a whole other thread, LOL.

I agree about sometimes a template in a pack doesn't speak to me too. I might give myself a little "out" if that happens. So cool that you reuse templates! I hardly ever do, but I'd like to.

We have brought you to the dark side! Bwahahahaha!

I remember you saying a long time ago that you don't really use them, so I hope they are aiding your creativity more now :D

Yep, gone over to the dark side and loving it :D

I feel very much the same way, I start with a template and than build from there.

I keep my kits together. Because .... well.... because I do.

I keep a kit summary folder of the jpegs overviews of alphas, one of kits, one of templates and one of jc, because I started out pocket scrapping, and always bought jc

That's what I do too - it makes it so much easier to browse through what I have. :)

Oh Jill - I can totally relate to this! I felt like using a template was cheating - now I love them! <3
