I don't consider myself to be OCD but

when I start a lo that I have in mind and maybe in my mind I Have a tilted or slant on a picture when it comes to doing it....I can't. I just can't make it look right and then I go back to using my guides and doing it straight. I don't use templates often and maybe I need to get a couple that I could play around with. Is there something wrong with me? Does anyone else have a problem with this?

I don't see it as a problem Peggy, just go with what feels right to you on the page you are working on. I am OCD in that I fuss over a tweak here and a nudge there ad infinitum but never do I have a LO in mind when I start..they all evolve as I go. Since coming to GS though, I have embraced the use of templates...most people here seem to use them, and I thought I would give them a try. I have now become addicted and they are fun!! My LOs don't always finish up looking like the template I started with though.

I have used a few templates and bought some. you are right the last time I used one my lo didn't look like the template when I got done. when I look at templates they just look full and "cluttered" to me. Going shopping now and see what I can find and try to get out of this rut!

I can't use templates in the program I use but I wouldn't anyways since there is just so much on the page. I also have the problem with titled or out of wack pictures. 99% of the time my pictures are square on like you. I've even gone in and straightened the pictures before using them. Tilts and slants drive me insane.

If you don't like slants or cluttered pages, then that's fine. For me, it all depends on the subject matter I'm scrapping.

Also, when I started out, back in 2007, my pages were very "sparse" - I didn't use a lot of embellishments (of course, digital kits didn't contain nearly as much goodies back then as they do now). I stopped scrapping in 2008 after suffering a concussion, then started up again last year. Since returning, I've come to love "cluttered" pages and lots of clusters. I want to use a lot of the goodies in the wonderful kits! So you may find your likes and styles change over time.

that is certainly true for me as well Caylynn on several different points. I certainly agree on the fact that there is so much more in the kits these days and I find it hard sometimes to leave some unused, so I have morphed into putting heaps of stuff on my pages and love it:)...a little off the beaten track for me as a person as my house is very unadorned as is my person (as in I don't wear jewellery much or fuss a lot over makeup or clothers). I so love minimalistic style LOs but cannot seem to make them work for me.

As far as "cluttered" templates are concerned, ladies, just make all the cluster layers invisible leaving only the photo placements and whatever paper layer placements you want to use visible, then add in as you go.

that is what do when I do use a template. I first make all the extra stuff invisible and work as I go. Usually when I do trying using a template, but lo ends up looking different!! as far as tilted pictures. I like the way it looks on layouts, but when I do it I don't think it looks right on mine. I did "a little tilting today on a lo" and I am sure I will evolve as I go. still fairly new to all this and so much to learn.

You are doing a fantastic job already by the look of your LOs in the gallery Peggy. The only criteria that you need to follow is to do what feels and looks right to you

Thanks Jill. that is good advice. my mood plays a part in my scrapping too. I have noticed a major improvement in my depression since I started scrapping.

Agreed! I don't have depression per se, but scrapping is awesome therapy for me!

As far as templates, I get rid of all the extra stuff on the template too, then add in what I want. I hardly remember how to scrap without a template lol... I use them probably 99% of the time!

Think of templates as a starting point. I always used templates, but I very rarely use them as they come, even for CT layouts. I always change things. Most of that change means deleting all the "fluff." I resize or flip. Add photos or take them away. Add a couple of layers of papers. Sometimes I will grab bits and pieces from several templates and make another template from those bits.

There is no right or wrong way to scrap. Do whatever makes you happy.
