How do you sort your kits?

Do you sort by designer? By name? By folder as in Elements, scatter etc? Or do you put everything in one folder?

Me? I open the kit and put everything in the elements folder so it's one giant folder. Then that folder goes into the designer's folder. I have a folder for each of the designers and all their kits go in that one.

I find it works for me.

I sort my layouts the same way: One main folder called CT LAYOUTS DUE and each designer has their own folder and I have sub folders for each month.

My GS folder is filling the quickest! LOL.:36_1_19:

Store|Designer|Kit/Product
and inside the kit is everything, papers, elements, alpha gets it's own folder inside the kit

I have one big folder labeled "DIGITAL SCRAPBOOK KITS"

Inside this folder are sub folders labeled by designer, and then each designer sub folder has a separate folder for each kit and is labeled with the Kit name, store, and designer. I don't break up kits at all because I'm a kit scrapper - my brain just can't handle mixing up different kits!

Each of my kit folders have to be sorted a certain way too..... Image of the kit first, solid papers, printed papers, journal/PL cards (if they're rectangular), circle items (buttons, flairs, round word elements), flowers, foliage, ribbons/strings, word bits, miscellaneous, and then alphas at the end. Yes, I'm a bit anal about it :36_1_19:

Wow Marie!!! That's quite the organizational system you have!!

I don't break up kits either. I have everything together in one folder. I couldn't keep track of all the parts if I didn't. LOL

I have a big folder on my desktop called "kits" and then inside I have sub-folders by theme. Holiday, boy, food, nature, fall, birthday...etc. And then a big one for alphas, date packs and such...and then another for templates.

I use PSE & it has an organizer where I can tag everything...but, I haven't done it because I have SO many kits that it's too daunting and time consuming! I wish I had started when I started collecting supplies.

I've always kept my kits organized as Designer --> Kit. When I download, I break everything in the kit out of the folders except alphas. I took an organizing class years ago by Kayla Lameroux about organizing & she recommended this.

But, with the recent closing of a big store, I decided it was time to change my files. So, now I have Store --> Designer --> Kit.

This way I can easily search "folder" and see a preview for all the kits in that store.

Until I get my tagging done, this will have to suffice!

LOL - thanks for wording it so nicely! ;) Most think it's a tad bit overboard but I just can't help myself :P

I forgot to say that I also have themed folders for the biggies, which for me are holidays, sports, and seasons... I also use Picasa when I scrap, which basically just feeds your folders into a format that is taggable and searchable... and free - LOL

I have the organizer tags, and I still don't use them... maybe I should.....

LOL! Suzanne, how do you find what you're looking for? Do you mostly use single kits or do you like to mix? How do you find templates with the right number of spots?

Oh, mixing is out! I couldn't mix a kit if I tried. I am amazed at people who can do that! That is some serious skills, of which I don't have. I am mostly a single kit kind of girl. Well.... with templates, I have one particular designer that I have them all saved in one place because I love their designs so much. For the others, it's a hope and pray kind of thing... you hope and pray you can find it when you need it.

Exactly like Amy does. Lots of folders & sub folders give me anxiety. lol

On my F drive:
folderss for - Actions, Brushes, Digi Kits, Fonts, Layer Stykes, Tutorials, QC.
inside my digi kits folder ( folders go like this)
Site > Designer > Kit ( open all the kit items and dump into the same named kit except the alpha keeps in a folder). When a designer moves stores, I move all her " stuff" to the new location. If I do the move from ACDSee all tagged info stays with it.

since GS is my home site I have a folder in GS called Collabs. Inside it place for buffet, MM, FWP, DDL, challenge rewards.

when I organize in ACDSee items are tagged by theme, or color or element item ( flowers, masks, fasteners etc). Now the ACDSee is not up to date....maybe in 2016........

I'm a mixer...I would love to be able to choose a color or theme and just choose from all different designers without having to open a bunch of folders like I do now.
2016 goal - TAG!

I have PSE and I keep saying I'm going to use the Organizer.....maybe a goal for 2016?

I have a folder labeled "Scrapbooking". In that is a "Projects" folder (for my layouts), a "Refrence" folder (for the kit previews) and then each designer has a folder. Each designer folder is organized by kits (and I have to keep elements/papers/alphas, etc. separately).

By store then designer... I rarely mix and match kits... what can I say? I'm a purist :D

I do have a folder in each store folder titled "collabs"... I might start one for GS with Buffet... then the Buffet month/year.

I have a folder named scrapbooking supplies and inside there are subfolder as categories: kits, fasteners, stitchings, frames, templates, etc... I only have a store folder inside if I decide to participate in challenges and I need to use kits from the store, so I create a folder with the name of the store and I move all products.

I used to mix products in the past and I like the idea of mixing, but haven't done that lately because I just can't remember what I have in my folders since I'm not scrapping very often. I really love the "reference" folder with previews, that might help me with the mixing. I'll have to borrow that, too.

i also do Site > Designer > Kit

would love to do kit previews section but that would tak e forever. so just have to rely on my bad memory.

i am one kit scrapper

I don't tag my items. I would never use that. I do use the "search" feature sometimes...when I'm looking for CU things to design with. But other than that, I can't imagine going through all my stuff to tag it.

I also can't imagine throwing everything into one big folder for buttons or ribbons...I'd never know where it came from. LOL

This is exactly what I do too. (I didn't take the class...I'm just a genius! :36_1_19:hehe) I leave the alpha in it's own folder too. But within the kit. :)

I LOOOOVE Mixing kits. At my first digi site (a long time ago) we had a "Dare" forum and you could dare people to do layouts of a certain theme or whatever. I used to dare people to mix something like a Christmas kit and an Easter kit and make a non holiday layout with them. Some of the layouts were amazing and some just plain funny. It's a great way to have some fun with scrapping friends too.

I've heard that PSE slows down quite a bit when you use the organizer like that... I've never tried it but that's why I started using Picasa years ago. If you do use it let me know how it works!
