How do you save your layouts?

Ever since I started digi-scrapbooking I've scrapped my layouts as 12x12 300 resolution. I always save the psd file (in case I need to edit the layers, spelling etc after). After I save that in a psd folder, I then merge all layers and save another file as 12x12 300 res (for printing), then I'll save another web version as an 8x8 75res for posting online.

However most of my albums I print are 8x8. So when I'm ready to print I go back to my 12x12 jpeg layouts and change the image sizes then save those in another folder for printing.

When all is said and done I have the exact same layout saved as....
- 12x12 300 res PSD (layers)
- 12x12 300 res JPEG (flattened)
- 8x8 300 res JPEG (flattened)
- 8x8 75 res JPEG (web quality 150 or less)

So much stuff saved for one layout. I'm curious what do you do? I'm thinking I should just skip the 12x12 jpeg size and save it right down to the 8x8 and save it both as a high res and web quality. Do you keep your web quality ones after posting around the digi world? Is there a benefit to keeping the web quality (besides time if you need to post again) or should I just delete those after some time?

Thanks for any input :)

Michelle, you have given me food for thought about all the things I have saved over the years. I back up so much onto EHDs which are filling up all the time.
I think I might start to go back and delete the ones "saved for Web". I have already started to not save PSD ones that I know for sure I will never need to alter.

I have started getting albums printed and I am going to only keep the JPEG of the pages I created for them and delete all the PSDs as I will never need to go back to those.

I have learned that saving your document in TIF format with layers has a smaller files size than PSD. I can't say for certain but when you decide to print an 8x8 page, you might have a better quality if you resize your 12x12 PSD to 8x8 and then save the 8x8 JPG (after you get the JPG copy saved you can "Undo" the image resize of you PSD to get it back to 12x12). Everytime a JPG gets resaved there is loss of quality so I am guessing if you resized a 12x12 JPG down to 8x8 there will be some loss of quality.
I usually save everything in a folder by layout name rather than separating the files. So my folder will have the PSD/TIF, high quality JPG ,the web version and also the text file for credits and font info. I do save a copy of the JPG to a separate folder of Layout Previews just so they are all in one place and handy for when I want to just browse through my creations.

I only save the PSE version and web size. I am not sure what I am going to do with all these layouts so I haven't bothered to save them in their final size/format yet. All my family albums are CM 12x15 but I scrap 12x12 so I will have to go back and "fix" them if I want to put them in the albums. I have started thinking I might just change it up and do yearly books in the 12x12 printed format from some online printing place.

I save an individual layout 3 times. The first as a 12x12 PSD before I add shadows (so I can make changes later if I need to). The second is as a 12x12 JPEG, which I put in a folder with all my other layouts for future printing. The third is as a 600x600px for posting on the web. This one gets saved in the same folder as the PSD, which is the same folder as the kit I used.

PSD, 12x12 full res and 600x600 for web. I keep the PSD and 12x12 forever and the 600x600 goes into a screen saver folder. periodically I weed out my least favourite in the screen saver folder.

I print all my layouts at 12x12 with https://www.sbtoshare.com/ and put them in albums.

I have been thinking about saving as a layered TIF file, but I have not made that leap. My head knows it is fine, but my heart doesn't trust anything but a PSD. :) Silly me.

i scrap at 12x12 300 res PSD - after page done resize to 8x8 tif

12x12 tif takes too long to save each t ime.

This is so interesting the way everyone saves. I personally save the original file, psd, then one for web and one for regular resolution. I have been thinking that I may go through and get rid of all the web versions. Maybe even the psd files. I can't decide. I don't want to lose them all.

I print 8 x 8 photo books. I save one and only one file for these books; a 12 x 12 saved at max resolution (in PSE I make sure it is saved at 12 when it asks for quality; I can't remember what the resolution is but it's much much more than 300). I do not save layered versions - once a layout is done it is DONE for me; I don't have time to go back and change them. I save web versions for my CTs for a while but they are also stored on FB so I really don't see the need to use up my storage for them.

Wow.... great ideas and so many different ways that people save LO's!

I typically save the TIF layered version, a flattened JPEG for printing and a 600x600 Web page. I agree with Marie that once a page is done, it's done... but you never know lol. I am chicken about getting rid of things. I guess we really don't need the web versions once they're posted around though, right?

I save the TIF file in case I need to make any changes, or I get motivated to journal more. I keep that version in the folder with the photos that are scrapped.

I save a print version in a separate "to print" file by date so when I'm ready to print, I can do a whole batch of the same time frame.
