How Do You Cook Your Turkey

I can't believe Thanksgiving is almost here!! I almost forgot to get my big turkey out to start defrosting in the fridge!!!

So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving...how do you all cook your turkeys? And while we're at it, anything else you want to share related to Thanksgiving!

We have a 22 pounder for our Thanksgiving this year and we are cooking it in an electric roaster. We had never used an electric roaster before last year, but it worked wonders and the meat was so delicious and moist. We were able to use our only oven for cooking and heating all the other food since the turkey wasn't taking up the whole oven.

So what about you?
 
If we are cooking, DH either fries it or smokes it. This year smoking it.

We like to do ours on the grill, beer-butt style (using an "oil" can of Fosters instead of a traditional 12 ounce can)...

 
hmmm.... beer turkey? I am just going to do it in the oven this year. I want to try one in the oil less fries next year

I normally don't cook the ham or turkey but this year I am going to. I had a mishap my first thanksgiving cooking. Hubs prepped everything (He had to work night shift the night before) and said to just stick everything in the oven. Well... I left everything in the turkey & didn't poke holes into the oven bags and the one for the ham exploded. I was cleaning burnt honey for months in that oven.
 
A simple turkey baking bag and a pop up timer. Always perfectly yummy! What else do you serve?

Our menu includes:
turkey
ham
pea salad
green bean casserole
Angeled eggs (dislike calling them deviled eggs)
Corn Casserole
cranberry sauce
dinner rolls
mashed potatoes
baked beans
stuffing and
mac and cheese
 
Well, we are always celebrating Thanksgiving with our military friends. We are rarely in our home state over the holidays. I'm excited that we are actually getting to celebrate Thanksgiving for the 2nd year in a row with our best CA friends! ;) We have also been lucky to be stationed really close to my husband's brother, so we get to celebrate with him and his wife again this year too. We are so thankful to be living in a place with such great friends, a couple family members, and perfect weather this year! ;)
