Honoring Our Beloved Sherri (Firstoscartgrouch)

Dear GingerScraps Family,

It’s with a heavy heart that I share news about someone very special to our community. Our dear Sherri (username Firstoscartgrouch), who has been a part of the GingerScraps family since 2016, is nearing the end of her journey.

Sherri has been courageously living with LongQT Syndrome, a rare and challenging heart condition. Through the struggles and pain, she continued to share her creative spirit and loving heart with all of us. She recently made the incredibly brave and deeply personal decision to access MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying), which is available in Canada. Her time with us is now very short.

Sherri’s creativity, strength, and kindness have touched so many lives here. Her scrapbook pages have told countless stories and inspired so many. In honor of Sherri and her family, I’d love for us to come together to celebrate her beautiful legacy.

Sherri even impacted my own personal scrapbooking journey. She was one of the first scrappers I saw creating truly beautiful pages on her iPad, and I was so inspired by her. I learned so much from watching her creative process, and now I use my iPad exclusively in my personal scrapping because of her. Her influence will always be a part of my memory-keeping.

Please take a few moments to visit Sherri’s gallery and share your favorite pages here in this thread. If you feel moved to do so, you can also share a memory, a kind word, or a reflection on how her work or presence has touched your life.

We don’t know if Sherri will be able to see this thread herself, but we will be sharing it with her loved ones. I hope it brings them comfort to see how deeply she is loved and what a meaningful mark she’s left on this community.

Let’s fill this space with the beauty she brought into our lives—and surround her and her family with the love she gave so freely.

With love and gratitude <3

Here is her first ever page in the GS gallery in 2016 :

Her most recent page (shortly after this she was unable to scrap due to her medical troubles) :

And here are just a few of my personal favorites from her gallery :

herri is a strong, brave and optimistic person. I send my most sincere blessings to her and hope that she is doing well <3

I did not know her that well I have seen her layouts and Sherri is always so happy in them. I did not realize she had a bad heart condition or that Alexis is her daughter. My heart and prayers goes out to Sherri and her family at this difficult time.
I think this is one of my favorites of hers cause it is how I look at myself in my mind I am young and healthy but then I see this old lady with gray hair in the mirror.

and I love this one also she always has a smile on her face you would never guess that she was sick. She uses such beautiful, poems or thoughts in her pages. What a beautiful soul she has<3

Sending Sherri and her family Love <3 and Hugs 🫂

I had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Sherri and being her scrap friend for many years when she was on my creative team. What always struck me about her was how proud she was of Alexis and how lovingly she scrapped everything about her family's life. I hope they will treasure the memories she made for them and that Sherri will finally be at peace. Sending love to family.

I could honestly go on and on.

I have enjoyed Sherri's pages throughout my stay here. The love she has for her family and how proud she is of their accomplishments is obvious in her layouts. The major themes of her pages are those that she loves, her battles with health, animals and the things around her like sunsets and sky. Every page tells a story and it is difficult to pick one page that really stands out because they all are a part of her life and loves. She is an inspiration to me and I hope her family will know how she touched so many of us throughout the years.

Wishing you and your family strength. I know Sherri while we were both on the CT of Kristmess Designs. She inspired me with her lovely pages. I remember her as always positive and a fighter. Also the love for her daughter Alexis and the beautiful pages she created for her. I hope Alexis chersishes alls the pages Sherri shared with us. This page stood out for me.

Sherri's scrapping style had a HUGE impact on me when I first found Gingerscraps. I loved that she scrapped real memories and admired her for her raw journaling. I especially loved this layout with her BIG beautiful smile and raw journaling "What do we say to death? Not today!". To me this is what scrapbooking means to me, leaving a legacy of not only photos but journal from the heart, a legacy left for those you love the most. Sherri, you have not only left a legacy for your children but also here at GS and also in my heart. I had the privilege of meeting Alexis and you raised beautiful, strong children and you will always have a place in my heart.

I don't mean to say it this way, but this is killing me. I'm bawling as I'm reading all of these tributes and seeing all of Miss Sherri's layouts and I went through her entire gallery this morning and cried the whole time because it was like watching my life with her.

I met her about the time she started scrapping here at GS and we went through ups and downs here together. I followed her struggles and that of her children, Alexis and Austin and they've both come to mean so much to me too. I was so honored to have met Sherri and Alexis when they came to MN Mayo in 2018. I wouldn't have missed that opportunity for the world. Also met another friend of theirs from the LongQT world, Bonnie Beach, such a kind soul. They have a tight community there, thank God. We've celebrated so many victories over the years. THREE birthdays for our Miss Sherri. She's a Valentine's Girl! Go figure... Then her re-birthday 2.0 on July 18, 2012 when they first implanted her difib and again her re-re-birthday 3.0, the last BIG one May 2, 2023.

My girl.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I am going to miss you SO MUCH. You are always supposed to be there, just a FB message away, my friend. Dangit... I guess this way, I'll always be able to chat with you anytime I want to. It just won't be the same. Thanks for always being there when I needed you. Love you!

This is the woman I knew... SO STRONG! So powerful, yet always striving for better. God love her.

I am so sorry to hear this. I didn’t really know her but had seen her around GingerScraps a lot. I had admired a few of her layouts. She scrapped a lot about her family and well, her life. I envied her openness in sharing her journey and her life in so many of her layouts.

Her gallery is full of wonderful layouts!! Here are some of my favorite layouts that Sherri done!

I was so sad to hear of this, I did not know Sherri "personally" but knew of her story through her LOs. She has created some really lovely works of art and shared them so generously here at GS. She has fought an amazing battle. My thoughts are with her and with those she loved.

Everyone has shared some precious layouts of Sherry's. I have to admit that I do not really know her all that well. However, I know that the center of her world is Alexis and Austin.

Sherry truly placed her children at the center of her life, even as they became young adults. Her love for her children and the relationship that she has with them is an inspiration to me as my children reach the stage in life that her children are in.

Prayers for Sherry and all of her family during this tough transition.

I have not known Sherri in person but over the years at different digi sites I have had contact with her. I always have found Sherri to be a positive , helpful, friendly person. I am sure we have been on the same Creative Teams at times.
May Sherri and her loved ones be at peace with this journey Sherri has chosen. May the ones left behind find comfort in each others love and support. Memories keep those we love close forever....

Looking through Sherri's gallery, I realised I have always enjoyed seeing her travel themed layout so I am sharing one of those.

There are no easy words in moments like this, but I want to express my deep gratitude for the light Sherri has shared with us over the years. Her pages were more than art—they were pieces of her heart, and each one touched us in ways words cannot fully describe.

Sherri has always been a quiet inspiration to so many of us. Her creativity, kindness, and courage have left a beautiful mark on our community. Her decision, though deeply emotional, is one made with immense bravery and dignity. I hold great respect for the strength it takes to choose peace and to say goodbye on your own terms.

To her loved ones: may you feel the warmth of this community surrounding you. Please know that Sherri will never be forgotten. Her stories, her spirit, and the beauty she brought into this world will live on in our memories and in every layout that carries a part of her soul.

I couldn't pick a single layout, but I wanted to share this quote which reminds me so much of Sherri's indominable spirit, because she was always so determined to create positive love everywhere she went with everything she did.

Birth, aging, sickness and death—these are the inescapable sufferings of life. They are the most pressing issues of life and the eternal questions facing humanity. . . . How can we live this impermanent, ever-changing life that transforms it into a life of enduring, positive value—a life characterized by the four noble virtues of eternity, happiness, true self and purity? This was the starting point of the Buddha’s spiritual quest, and it remains the essential challenge posed by Buddhism.
