Holiday time?!

To those who celebrate, when do you start Christmas/holiday music, decorating, festivities?

I'm Team November 1st. Last year, we decorated WAY early because the year sucked and WHY NOT begin the festivities early?! Then, we kept it all up until late January--the longest we've celebrated.

This year, I'm not quite ready for Christmas to start so early. I want to wait a bit to start playing the music or decorate. I want to enjoy my fall decor a little longer! Plus, I don't want to have carol burnout by Dec. 1st lol.

I want to hear your opinion! No Christmas 'til Nov. 15, after Thanksgiving, or Dec. 1?

Interesting! I'm Team After Thanksgiving, but I don't disparage those who decorate earlier. We wait until the Friday or Saturday to put up the tree, which is a family event. The rest of the decorating I do by myself in a few days afterward. I've done less and less over the last few years because I simply don't have the energy to do it all myself anymore.

The same goes for Christmas carols, although hubby and I are in a couple of choirs and we begin rehearsing Christmas music in October. But I don't listen to Christmas music until Thanksgiving. :)

I think after Thanksgiving is the norm. I also think it depends on how "far out" you go with decorations. A little can be put up later but if you are putting up a lot, you need more time.

Great question! I can't decide. Last year, I waited tooooo long to put my stuff up because... why.. no one was coming over... but this year... but typically, it goes up the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Christmas music anytime after Nov 1 if the mood strikes me. Tree and decorating after Thanksgiving.

Cute story:
Last year Sydney was at college living in an apartment with a friend (childhood friends since they were 3 and 5 years old). We got an early snowfall that year in mid October, it was close to midnight and Syd was asleep. Her friend came into her room and woke her up saying "Syd! Wake up I want to show you something!" Kate (room mate) had put up and decorated their Christmas tree! Two weeks before Halloween! Those girls celebrated the holidays for over 2 months that season!! Love them!

Tough question. When we had kids in the house, we would typically start the Christmas decorating over the Thanksgiving holiday. However, now that we're empty nesters, we usually travel to other family member's homes for the holidays. So I only accent with a few decorations these days (like decorative plates or something on the mantel).

No one else cares about the holiday decorating as much as I do (which is totally fine, it's my thing) so it's really whenever I'm in the mood. Our new cat kept trying to eat the tree last year so it was only up a few days. Hopefully we can keep it up longer this year. I'm not ready to let go of fall yet either though... I am excited to decorate our balcony this year. We spend a lot of time out there in the winter so I want to get some more lights out there to make it festive.

Tree went up yesterday and so did the lights. Today we finished the tree and most of the other decorations we have. I love Christmas and I put stuff up right after Halloween!
