Help with journaling cards with lines

Kristi Martin

Well-known member
I really struggle using journaling cards with lines and wonder if others have found an easy way to get your text lined up properly with the lines on the cards or do you just ignore the lines and type your text over the lines? I have done it before, but it really bothers me.
No matter how much I adjust the paragraph leading, font size or even by changing fonts it is always so much work to try to get the text properly lined up on the lines on the journaling card. I love the look of a lined journaling card, but in the long run sometimes I will forfeit using them because it is just easier to have a card without lines.
Any tips or suggestions?

So when I use a lined journal card I pick my font, size, etc. and I usually only have to change the leading on some of the lines of text. Such as the first two lines might line up nicely but then I might have to highlight lines 2 and 3 of text and change that spacing and I continue changing spacing between lines as necessary. I hope that helps

Usually I’ll tweak the lead until it’s perfect.. no shortcut there. But sometimes I’ll just choose a fun handwritten font and rotate my text a bit so it looks like I just scribbled my journaling on the card. Kind of like how you might scribble a note on a notepad. :)

Oh silly me... I honestly never though I could change the leading just for part of the paragraph, guess I thought I had to do it for the whole thing. As you said, it usually does line up on the first couple of lines but then slowly starts to go off a bit and gets worse on the way down.
Thanks!

I like this idea! Then it would be purposely messy!
Thanks!

Oh I never thought of doing the leading for just part! Thanks for the tip Bernice!

Sometimes I'll just break up my journaling into different layers, one line for each layer. Then they HAVE to go where I want them to go, LOL. But this is time consuming and annoying and I'm going to try the other way now.

I would do what Jennifer does.
When the lines bother me too much I crop a paper to fit smaller than the journal card and journal on that instead. I still get the design of the card around the paper but the "bother" to adjust sometimes is so annoying.
If you want the lines, try a card without the lines and just use the underline tool on your writing.

Great idea!
