Help! Drop Shadows aren't showing up

I am using PSE10. I can apply a drop shadow and it shows in the side pane. But, it isn't applied to the lay out. I have tired to restart PSE and my computer. It worked last week just fine. Any suggestions would be wonderful!
TIA!!

That's weird! I have every version of PSE from 6 thru 13. Hate moving on from version 6 because I knew it so well, but wanted the upgrades in the newer versions. I currently have 11 and 13 loaded on my desktop. I found version 13 to have some "glitchiness" such as you are describing. I would apply a style and could see it in the layers pannel, but it would not show up on the layout until I moved my mouse over the layout in different directions. Finally, it would pop on there so I could see it. It still acts like that, and I have not found a fix as yet. Am thinking I need to totally uninstall it and re-install it to see if that fixes some of the glitches I am observing. Version 11 has a very small interface which makes reading things on a large screen very hard, so I liked that the interface of version 13 was much larger for a person like me with glasses, but the glitchiness in 13 has made me resort back to using version 11 most of the time. Plus, 11 still has the magic wand which I love. Hope they eventually put that back in the newer versions! If you find the solution, please post it here so I will see it.

Oh, no! I don't have a fix, but I'm interested in the solution in case I run across the shadow problem.

And Janytime, I've heard before people saying they wish PSE13 had the magic wand ... it DOES have the magic wand. It's one of the selection tools, just like in PSE11. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean, but here's what I'm talking about:

Thank you for such excellent help! There is a tool that was in PSE 11 and all before it that is not in V13, maybe it's called the "magic extractor". I may have my terminology all wrong.

Any luck yet, Melissa?!

Janytime, I have PSE11, too, and have used it for a few years, but I don't know that tool! I'll have to look, because CLEARLY I'm missing out on something LOL

Just found a tutorial on it ... that is COOL! How did I never know that existed?!

Let me know if you find that tool in PSE 13! I had taken lots of different online scrapping classes where that tool was used frequently, to the point I had become dependent on it being there. It was discussed in that forum that it was not included in the newer versions of PSE, so that was a downer.

Thanks Ladies! I did figure it out. The layer style was set to hide all effects in the layers pull down along the top. How in the world that got check I have not a clue!! I was quite happy for an easy fix!

Right! I'm glad you figured it out. That actually might come in handy some day, so it's good we know about that feature now :)
