Hello from Fiji

Hi Everyone. I am Michelle. My husband and I moved to Fiji almost two years ago after 50 years in Canada. My job keeps me busy with travelling in the South Pacific. I have thousands of pictures, both photographs on paper from years ago and more recently (since about 1998) digital images. I used to make photo pages using things like PowerPoint, Word, CorelDraw but that was many years ago. I want to get my photos and memories into a form that will be meaningful into the future. Having recently experienced the passing of my mother, and subsequently putting a memory presentation together for her memorial service, I realised how much has been lost when all we have are books and boxes of photos and not the stories that they tell. Unfortunately, I am feeling overwhelmed and don't really know where to start with all this so I am hoping these forums and other features will help.

hello there Michelle and big welcome to GingerScraps! I am sure you will love this community :). if you need any help, do not hesitate to ask. ladies here are super helpful indeed!
to get you going, I'd suggest you join in some of the challenges. it is a lot of fun and you will find lot of inspiration :).

Thank you, I tried out the signature challenge yesterday and used the tutorial as well which was really good.

Hi Michelle! Welcome to GS! When I feel overwhelmed, I think to myself, "just one page at a time." That makes the task seem less scary and overwhelming. You are in a great place!

Hi Michelle!! I scrap in Word right now, alongside Paint. I print out in 8x8 from Word, then stick the pages in slip-in albums. I'm also overwhelmed with gobs of pictures and more added daily. For the daily pictures, I started P52 just so I know what our family does on a daily basis. I also have trip pictures because our family loves to travel. Unfortunately those hardly get done, lol... But like Suzanne says... Just one page at a time :)

Thanks for the support - I am trying the one page at a time idea and made a page that I posted the other night about diving. Not very artistic but it got the job done and I am sure I will improve with time. I have this idea to make a set of pages for my children with each page having a favourite recipe along with photos from their childhood and a bit of the story of how the particular recipe and photos fit together. So far I have a list of the recipes to include and have started combing through the photos and writing the stories but this is looking like a huge project.

Hi Michelle and Welcome to GS!!! So sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Don't concentrate on the size of the project, just the memory each page holds. I thinks it's great advice to focus on one page at a time.
I haven't scrapped much over the past year or so, due to depression brought on by the deaths of my cousin and grandmother. It was hard to scrap about memories when I missed them so much. I have found that the challenges here at GingerScraps is the motivation I need to scrap again. That and my sister yelling at me that my kids don't know stories about them when they were little.
Just wanted to say, you're not alone and we'll scrap together one page at a time. Can't wait to see your layouts.
Big hugs, Angi

FIJI!! How awesome! I hope your LOs will feature some pictures of Fiji since I'm sure I'll never get there in this life time. Welcome to GS...always feel free to ask any questions you may have...we all started not knowing anything about digi at some point!

Welcome Michelle! I'm happy you discovered this wonderful community. I totally 'get' the "not knowing where to start". My advice...start anywhere. It doesn't have to be at the beginning or the most recent.
Scrap where your heart is at the moment with whatever you wish to preserve first. Place those pages in a designated folder...and when the book is ready. Print!

As stated earlier, ask if stuck. There is always someone around.

Welcome Michelle!!! I'm also Canadian! But still here. LOL...my dream is to live in the tropics though, so I will be stalking your layouts!

Hi Michelle! I think that joining in the challenges really is a great way to get at least 10 pages done a month, and plenty of choices for meeting that goal. It really works for me! You also bring up a good point on documenting the memories, journaling is so important to bring others in the future into the memories, that is something I lack and am working on! Hope you have found a home here!

Welcome aboard Michelle. I feel your pain with the loss of your mother. I lost my dad 3.5 years ago. Shortly after he died we found a suitcase full of pictures he had taken before he met my mom. Pictures of when he was younger and when he was in the Army. Unfortunately he was the youngest of his siblings and they have all passed so we don't know the stories behind any of his pictures. We've been able to figure out were some of them were taken but that's it. That is one of the reasons I've gotten back into digital scrapping. I don't want my kids to find my pictures in 50 years and not know what they are all about.
Hope you find your needed inspiration here.
