.....ever created a whole LO and then gone to find a photo to fit? I have just done that for the first time ever. I wanted to use the challenge minikit but didn't at that stage know what I wanted the LO to be about. I DID however have a new template that I was itching to use purchased during the awesome sales happening this week, hence the cart before the horse process on this occasion:). I have always been a photo first scrapper, at least until I took up the CT position, so this was a total switcheroo for me. Tell me YOUR story.

Oh Jill.. I feel for you. I try really hard to combine that cart and horse...

:D michi, a happy combination of horse and cart must be the absolute ultimate (ooh is that a tautology???).

I'm generally a kit first, then look for the photo. But I hardly ever start a layout without a photo in mind.

Being on a CT totally changes the way you scrap. Pictures usually come last, after the kit and the template that must be used.

I will find a picture first, but I agree with Donna. If I'm ever on a CT again, I'll start finding pictures based on whatever kit I get.

I second that! Done that cart before the horse so many times. It is frustrating. I recently went through my photos so now when I scrap I have a better idea of what photos I need to scrap when I get a kit. It has helped a little bit.

I hear you Donna, CT work has been a huge learning curve for me. This is the first time I have CT'd for anyone. This time around (after the demise of my previous digi home and my decision not to scrap again...now reversed:)) my scrapping focus has changed. Previously I would not scrap a page unless there was a story to it, I only scrapped pages of the grandkids doing their stuff, I didn't ever scrap a page with simply a photo and word art, I didn't use templates.....now I scrap anything and everything whether there is a story or not, I am loving templates, I am happy to do pages with no journaling, I am happy to do a page that has nothing to do with the grandkids...in fact, this time around in my scrapping life, I am scrapping purely for the joy of creating, using photoshop and playing with fantastic product.

I take pictures of everything because you never know when you might need them for a CT layout. But there's nothing better than when my layouts count for my own scrapbooks, a CT layout, AND a challenge! The trifecta of scrapping! lol!

My kids send me their pictures. Sometimes I have to borrow pictures from friends with the promise of a free layout from me. I probably won't ever have grandchildren, but my friend lets me scrap her grandchildren, although I cannot post them anywhere.

Pictures last for me, I may have one in mind, but it can change after I do the layout. Way back when I first started I took an online training session and they had us create the layout without the photo, because they wanted us to like the page without the photo, and that has stuck with me ever since (about the only thing from that class that did).

When I want/need (like for a challenge) requiring certain colors or just bought a kit and want to use it NOW, I make my LO then hunt for a photo. This helps me scrap photos that I may not have scrapped otherwise. But if I want to scrap a trip or flowers from our yard - then definitely I start with the photos.
Overall, I love scrapping both ways as it makes the little gray cells have to think differently!

Lately, I've been strugling for photos after I finished embelishing a template. Since I lost my ehd last year, I struggle to collect more photos after that for my LOs. Most of the time I see myself using photos more than twice.
