Gallery Appeal - What Gets Your Attention

Sugar Cookie : GingerScraps Praise
I have been looking at my gallery, and I can't for the life of me tell what attracts people more to one layout than another...

What gets your attention in the gallery?

  • Big pictures?
  • Journaling?
  • White Space?

When do you make most of your comments? (If you make them)
  • Late at night when you finally have peace and quiet?
  • First thing when you are fresh?
  • Whenever?

When is the worst time to make comments?
  • Weekdays?
  • Weekends?
  • Late?
  • Early?
  • Beginning of the month?
  • When there is a sale on haha!

Inquiring minds....

What? No one's answered yet? I had to let all the questions percolate!

I guess what gets my attention in the gallery is the use of white space, but also great clustering. It just depends on my mood, I guess. Once in a while the pictures will attract me but mostly it's the other two.

I make my comments when I go to post something myself. At least I used to. I've fallen off that wagon and need to get back on. Typically it's in the evening before dinner when I finish a page and go post it. *makes mental note to comment more*

I'm not sure there is a worst time to make a comment for me. I typically don't turn on my computer on until early afternoon, so definitely not before then LOL. If you're talking about when I like receiving comments, that's anytime. I love seeing the little e-mail notifications pop up and reading the comment. They always makes me smile and your efforts are appreciated! :)

Some of the times the thing that attracts me to certain layouts are the photos... especially... beach, scenery ( places I will never get to see), birds and animals. Also I just love to see older ( vintage) photos used on layouts. The style of pages that attract me possibly are the clean & simple ones. I do not like a lots and lots of elements... which can detract from the story behind the photos.

I try and add comments when I upload to the gallery.

Thanks, both of you :) Hopefully we get some more answers to this - I think it is really interesting. I have no idea why some of the layouts in my gallery get more than others - have you wondered that too?

I think color and clean design is what attracts me though I do click on layouts with unusual titles :) Like Anne Marie I comment when I upload so that's probably in the morning,

The photos plus color and page design. I prefer 'real' life pages, artsy or blocked. I'm not much of a white space person.

I love big photos. I also like lots of elements. Sometimes I'm drawn in because of the kit they used--especially if I've used the same one--I like to see how THEY used the same kit! As for when I comment, I tried commenting when I post but that didn't work, so now I usually comment in the evenings when I'm watching a movie or something. I'm not usually drawn in by the white space layouts--they are pretty in their own way, but they don't attract me. I've tried to do them--and I flunk. I'm still trying though, in challenges and stuff!!

I think for me titles on a page will catch my eye especially since I am not very good at them also if they have done something unique on a layout that makes me go wow I would never have thought to do that. I love looking at the template challenges as I have seen things done I would never have thought to do. I will confuse I am terrible at commenting as I usually don't know what to say other than I love their page.

Good questions! I'm not sure what attracts me. Paper layering and clusters seem to get my comments more than a white space page or a busy overly done page. I browse through the gallery when I upload a layout and then make comments so late at night. I'm horrible at it but try to word what I'm thinking the best I can. I wish I could just say that I love the page but I try to comment on something I love about it. I love getting comments on my pages anytime they come and I don't think there is a bad time to do commenting. Everyone that posts should make a comment or two. :)

I'm drawn to whitespace pages and pages with realistic shadowing. Also color. Not necessarily certain colors, just good balance of color. I usually comment when I'm searching through the gallery for inspiration. I'm trying to be more active on this site so I'm hoping to start leaving more love! :)

I don't comment as often as I want to , it is usually when I have time and when I am in the mood. I usually look for pages that don't have comments yet. I also can get drawn to a page by it's composition or the color combination used or the photo/s i=on the LO.

I was really interested in everyone else's answers. I agree with quite a few of them.

I'm drawn to pleasing visual design and great clustering. I prefer real-life photos over stock photos. Realistic shadowing and unique title work also draw my eye.

In the evenings, when my day is done, I enjoy browsing galleries looking for mojo. That's when I usually do my commenting.

Thanks, Lynnie, for starting this thread!

Colour, real photos, and clustering tend to grab my attention. I'm not a fan of stock photos or model photos. I understand that when people are on a CT, they sometimes don't have suitable real photos and so use stock photos or if they are experimenting and want to try something different. but when that is all someone uses, it turns me off, no matter how beautiful their layouts might be otherwise.

On the other end of the spectrum, really well-done minimalist layouts also grab my attention, because it's so different from my style.

Ok, what grabs my attention?

Artistry. By that I mean I am drawn into pages that have intricate little details - scatters, stitching, flowers. and I tend to like to see a lot of negative space around them.

Interestingly enough, I am ALSO drawn to very colorful piley pages! It's like I have two distinct personalities - and I'm drawn to those extremes.

I'm not much into cartoony type elements - I'm much more attracted to realistic elements and flowers, and I'm a sucker for foliage. I wish more kits would use different leaves and vines.

I am also drawn in by journaling that is part of the design, but still legible.

Animal photos (especially dogs and cats) and art journaling/mixed media pages always get me going!

This is a tough one Lynnie! Having an abstract-random personality , it sort-of varies from one second to the next, you've met me . . . . sort of :)

Real photos for sure , kids & beautiful scenery too especially beaches, lakes , waterfalls , & sunsets. Not much into stock photos , but I do understand the need for them . I'm a spontaneous type photographer so get tired of overly posed professional shots .

I love journaling and / or pictures that tell a story , particularly those that tug at my heartstrings or those feelings stories I know had to be hard to share. Love the ones that make me laugh out loud and those that have photos from different perspectives . Love the dog photos . I'm not much of a cat person (yes I ..know I lost style points for that answer ) , but I really love Caylynn's sphinx cats , because they are so unusual & she's an amazing scrapper.

Glitter, color , beautiful clustering, realistic shadows , but minimalism attracts me too. Piled on pages are great except when it detracts from the photo.

I shy away from the artsy ones mostly because I don't understand them, I don't mean that in a derogatory manner . I don't understand how they are created , I'm afraid if I tried it I'd have a mess and not a piece of art. There are some that look like how I imagine the inside of my head sometimes .

There are times when I think all of the time I spend in the gallery paralyzes me from scrapping . . . . . all of the talent & creativity overwhelms me.

Guess this explains the whole abstract-random part.

I love stuff! lol... layouts with tons of EMbellishments (see what I did there?!) but not overwhelming the picture. I'm mostly a 1 photo layout person except when I do PL52 pages. I am drawn to clustering and artsy stuff like paints, stitching, knick-knacks (think Connie Prince mixed media kits) and paper layers.

I usually make comments when I'm at work...shhh... Like Jamie, I'll look for layouts that need a more lovin'.

Aww, thank you Jeanne. And while I realize it's probably auto-correct, it's Sphynx, with a y. :) But thank you for your kind words. :)

What gets your attention in the gallery?

  • Journaling?
  • White Space?
Everything gets my attention, white space, big photo/s, journaling (even though I sometimes can't read them hehe [I have a very poor eyesight], clusters and shadow works)

When do you make most of your comments? (If you make them)

  • Late at night when you finally have peace and quiet?
  • First thing when you are fresh?
  • Whenever?

I think 'whenever' because sometimes I "try" to multitask, so while saving a layout or while I'm browsing pinterest, I will go to the gallery and leave comment/s on the recent uploads, sometimes I will search on the recent photos for 1 day or up to 7 days.

When is the worst time to make comments?

  • Weekdays?
  • Weekends?
  • Late?
  • Early?
  • Beginning of the month?
  • When there is a sale on haha!

For me it's the weekends when the husband and my daughter are at home competing for my attention (LOL!), and asking for food every hour, especially this summer that my daughter is just at home, I wanted to make the most of our time together bonding. So when she's busy doing her own thing, I make sure to multitask making layouts, uploading and leave meaningful comment in the gallery.
