FONTS..how do you handle them

Do you use a font manager like The Font Thing? Other? Do you simply store them and install as needed? What do you do?

The thing I missed most when I transferred from PaintShop Pro to Photoshop was that in PSP, you could simply have the chosen font sample open in the window and it was automatically available in PSP and, many years later, I still miss that function. I don't think you can do that with Photoshop. I just save them to a fonts folder and install as needed then uninstall later when I remember, but I would like to be more efficient. I would also like to know if I can safely remove all those foreign language fonts.

I use PSE 11 so I just load my fonts into the font folder that is on my computer for MS Word, and they all come up in PSE when you click on the text tool. You can see a preview of what each font looks like and scroll through to pick the one you want.

I use Nexus Font Manager. I hate installing fonts because they eventually start to make your PC drag. So Nexus is perfect. I love that I can make sets and collections to further separate and organize my fonts. I can put all CU fonts together and then still make sets for fancy, typewriter, etc. I love it!!! :D

I'm like Kiana. I use Nexus Font Manager too. It works slick. I simply open Nexus font manager, then open photoshop and they are all there.

I have so many installed that the Text tool takes ages to open in PS. Hence the enquiry:) Hence the question about which ones I can safely get rid of. I might look at Nexus.....

Yup that's exactly why I researched font managers. My PS was running so slow when I'd try to open the text tool. I really love the Nexus capabilities. I really love being able to open different sets I'm looking for only.

Obviously I don't have enough to make my PC drag :36_1_19:. Which is just as well since it would be one more choice to agonize over every time I scrap - LOL. I just checked and I have 404 fonts, of which I probably use 5 reguarly.

I've been using ACDSee because it temporarily installs fonts without bogging down PSE. I've been considering switching to a strictly font organizer.
It sounds like Nexus Font does that - installs them temporarily when you're using PSE...is that correct?

I don't know... I have never used Nexus Font or anything really, but am interested in learning about it. Hope someone comes along with an answer to your question regarding its performance soon:)

Oh, I've never thought of finding a different means to install and organize my fonts. Honestly, I don't install too many because I'm worried about it overloading things. This sounds like it might be the a good program to try! Thanks!

Sorry. Yes, Nexus doesn't actually install them at all. As long as you have the program open and then open PSE or PS it allows the program to "see" them and use them. Easy peasy. Thinking I might need to do a tutorial on this soon on my blog :)

That would be an excellent idea Kiana...could you pop back here and tell us when it is up do you think?

I have a MacBook Pro and I use Font Book to organize and install my fonts. I have a scrapbooking group set up so I can quickly look up fonts (the preview is so much bigger in Font Book than in PSE). It doesn't interact directly with PSE though, so I have to manually type in the name of the font in PSE to pull it up. But I can have Font Book open at the same time to see what I want.

Thank you so much for the tutorial, Kiana! :kissesIt was very helpful. I think I had Nexus installed some time ago, but never figured out how to get the fonts to connect to PSE, so I deleted it. Now I get it! :geek1:

Oh yeah Oh Yeah Oh Yeah!!!!! I'm so glad it helped you!!! :geek1:

Thank you so much Kiana, I have saved the link to favs and I am looking forward to studying your tutorial and getting organised with my fonts and Nexus when I get home from doing my activities for today.

:kisses

Question... I have 1700 fonts but only 624 are showing in Nexus. How do I get the rest in there?? Thanks!!

Okay. So I've had this problem when I first installed Nexus too and I could never find a definite answer. What I did was uninstalled all fonts that were not system fonts. Since then whenever I add a font to my folder they show up. There was maybe one or two that haven't and I don't know if maybe they were just corrupt or encrypted, so I just deleted them all together. I wish I could find more help for this one, but there just isn't any info out there on this.

Here's some things I did find online:

"If you are installing a truetype and an opentype font that have the same name, only one will show in your font list not both."

"
ConsSometimes the fonts within a set wouldn't show and I need to click on the installed fonts for it to load up and click on the set again for the fonts to appear."

Do you know which fonts I can safely delete Kiana? I don't know how to find out which ones are system fonts and which ones are not. I have a lot of foreign language fonts and others that I will never use.

If you are using Nexus I wouldn't delete any in the Installed Library. And yes a lot are foreign language. They come with it believe Windows and Photoshop too.

Wendy, I have a mac and PSE "talks" to my fontbook. When I install them directly by dragging them into Font Book, they all just magically appear the next time I launch PSE. I have never had a problem accessing any of my fonts. They are all equally accessible in Word and any other program I use on my macbook.

would they not all show, for some have a separate file for light, bold, regular? (one font with options when using it)
