External Hard Drive Failure

So it finally happened to me. All of my Scrapbook kits that I keep on my external drive have been corrupted by hard drive failure. :/ I was able to rescue 3 designers worth of my Gingerscraps folders. The rest are 100% corrupted. I was very happy that all my Layouts in their high resolution formats are saved on Smugmug but I no longer have all my PSD files for each of them and of course the loss of all my kits that were on the drive which was 98% of them. Sigh....I guess it could have been worse, if I hadn't saved all my layouts online, trying to look at the bright side! :cryhard

{{{HUGS}}} I'm trying to help in the bright side department, hard to find something I know, but it could have been all of your pictures. I know it's not comparing apples to apples when you have designers depending on you.

We just had a big discussion on that a month or so ago. It is so rough. You have my sympathy and an overwhelming urge to check and double check all my backups.

Yes please Everyone BACK UP! I have some older drives with a lot of my really old scrapbook supplies and Layouts, but all my GS stuff was on the new drive that decided after 1 too many times of falling off the table to not work anymore. Back up ladies, it really sucks losing your stuff!

After falling off the table too many times? You are so funny. I am so sorry you have lost all your scrapbook supplies from GS, but I am laughing at your description about what happened. I do hope you are able to get them back. Have you tried taking the drive in for recovery?

Awe (((hugs))) girl...I can't even imagine. I set up Backblaze a couple years ago and thankfully have never needed it...but the $5/mo is worth every penny for my peace of mind.

In the hard drive horror stories thread, someone mentioned backblaze does not back up everything, whether it was backblaze or the user, I do not know, but it might be worth checking.

I'm so sorry!! After our discussion a month or so ago about this, I re-backed everything up so have my stuff all on my "big" laptop and on my external along with having everything on my OneDrive account.

for backblaze users -it seems like it woudl take forever to backup lots of stuff

for example any idea how long to back up a 4 TB drive that is practically full.

currently have photos and kits and lo on regular hard d rive and backed up to external. some photos backed up to flickr but it is a very slow process to do it manually.

I'll bet it is a lot less time than recovering all your missing data :) I think if you just set it going it eventually catches up. Even it is days and days, or even weeks, it will eventually catch up to where you are. I have never done an online backup, but I think I might start. I have external hard drive and it always feels as though something is behind on being backed up.
